Downfall Of Gaia has started as a doom metal oriented crust punk band, but they’ve evolved into a more atmospheric post-black metal band. This powerful German band has been formed back in 2008, and current members are located in Berlin, Hamburg and New York, but that doesn’t stop them on their musical journey. So far, the band has published dozen of great material such as The Downfall Of Gaia Demo (2008), Salvation In Darkness EP (2009), a split release with Kazan (2009), Epos LP (2010), a split release with In The Hearts Of Emperors (2011), Suffocating In The Swarm Of Cranes LP (2012), Aeon Unveils The Thrones Of Decay LP (2014), and Atrophy LP (2016). Ethic Of Radical Finitude is their brand new album which has been published by Metal Blade Records, a well-known record label which has published some of their previous recordings. This time, Downfall Of Gaia has focused on fundamentals of post-black metal music and less crust punk aesthetics, but on the other hand, the band kept their recognizable atmospheric ambiance which has been a part of this band for so many years. The band goes towards that modern post sound which is quite popular nowadays, but still, the band tends to surprise with a lot more depressive melancholic melodies like never before. It’s more than obvious that essence of their crust punk era is still there, but with more polished production, greater arrangements, more black and doom metal riffage, and even more melodic structures. One thing is for sure, melodies are still dark, depressive and beyond comprehension. The divinity of the guitar section is almost abnormal. A whole mix possesses a lot more reverb in order to achieve more atmospheric feel and the result is more than appealing. Downfall Of Gaia really paid a lot of attention to each and every detail and Ethic Of Radical Attitude is a step further for this band. This album might not be an ordinary neo-crust record, but it’s truly a post-metal masterpiece which signifies even brighter days for Downfall Of Gaia.
