The Light Escaping is a brand new cosmic voyage by the Autarch, a wondrous neo-crust punk band hailing from Asheville, North Carolina. The band has been formed in 2010. and has published a decent amount of impressive records such as Self-Titled CD, The Death Of Actiacus LP/CS, and split LP’s with Soothsayer and Landbridge. The band solely digs deep into the psychology of mankind, examine the deviant behavior of the manipulated masses, discusses the benefits of questioning everything while being in isolation, encourages the unquestionable power of an individual, pays homage to the fallen antifascists, criticizes religion and religious martyrdom, and praises the cruel, but righteous forces of mother nature. Autarch exhibits all these important themes through compositions such as Aldebaran, Mercury, Saturn, Sol, Sagittarius A, and Terra. The band clearly uses the celestial objects to personify and objectify various characters, themes, circumstances, and identify their behavior with certain mechanisms of a modern man. Autarch’s lyrics are pointing fingers at all the problems of modern society but also blame tradition and repetitional mistakes of civilization. These highly intelligent and eloquent lyrics are supported by brilliant compositions that have been pervaded with beautiful melancholic progressions, mainly performed by various guitar technics. Perhaps Autarch can be best described as a neo-crust band, but their multidisciplinary music voyages deeper into a vast universe of post-metal, doom metal, and sludge waters. The band doesn’t escape from these diametrical subgenres. Quite the contrary, they vividly showcase all these elements through ultra-melodic segments that have been pervaded with dynamics of d-beat rhythm, resulting in a very powerful polyphonic compositional schematics that contain nothing but sheer aggression. Autarch’s cosmic flares are like the warm wind in the back, they’re forcing listeners to think for themselves, question their surroundings, trust only their intuitions and make a positive change in this world. The Light Escaping has been published on vinyl in a collaboration between The Plague of Man Records, Replenish Records and Profane Existence, do go ahead and treat yourself with some proper crust punk music with immensely intelligent lyrics.
