Sometimes, discussing or searching for instrumental music can be frustrating. Among all those instrumental music purists who always recommend big fish in the pond without even considering up-and-comers, there’s a certain, almost traditional routine of avoiding all those good recordings that could probably be more impactful than anything else released by renowned names in the game. And it’s such a shame, because there are many good bands that lack proper support. Thankfully, we stumbled upon ### a couple of years ago, when they unleashed “Nasilno” LP, and since then, we followed their natural progression almost ritually. Now, they’re back with another fine piece of sonic artistry you should unquestionably place on your music radar. “Osorno,” a tremendous slab of instrumental music carrying eight exceptional compositions, is a triumphant return of this incredible Croatian band. They explore all facets of underground music in a way bands rarely do nowadays. From all those profoundly heavy, aggressive, unfiltered, raw, noise rock aesthetics and the colossal, crushing power of post-hardcore to the more atmospheric, cinematic, ethereal qualities of post-rock and the raspy, lush, melodic soundscapes of synthwave, ### even manage to tuck some other styles somewhere in between. The best part about it is how it always sounds so captivating, otherworldly, ethereal, and powerful.

What makes “Osorno” such an incredible piece in ###’s discography is its unpredictability. This band never plays on a safe; they’re not interested in countless streams, taps on the back, meaningless praise from underground scene moguls, or any other titles that being another predictable, repetitive, bland indie band could bring. Quite the contrary, ### are one of those groups who do not care about anything but delivering music that appeals to them. If someone jumps on a bandwagon, then it’s up for a joyride of a lifetime. And that means being crushed by the tidal wave composed of heavy guitars, bone-breaking basslines, and maniacal rhythmic patterns. But first of all, this band knows how to craft emotionally resonant compositions that may evoke calmness, anger, or any other emotional state. Their soundscapes are as massive or calm as they could possibly be, without ever making a compromise in favor of the listener. Each composition arrives with impactful themes that may or may not remain dominant throughout the entire structure. They’re anchors that keep listeners tied to their seats on this epic sonic journey, crafting that catchy, memorable, engaging ambiance that transforms from simplistic themes into entire complex soundscapes in a matter of seconds. Every composition comes with a perfect structure, decorated with many beautiful arrangements, profoundly detailed segments, brilliant ideas, and outstanding musicianship. The guitars shine in the limelight by delivering all those heavy, feral, aggressive themes, colossal riffs, pleasant or unpleasant melodies, harmonies, and other noisy maneuvers. These guitar works are either tastefully distorted or raw, unfiltered to the point of leaning more into ambient harsh noise territory. The bass guitar offer either clean, polished, warm-sounding basslines or equally noisy low ends, depending of the current mood and ambiance of the song, but this particular instrument plays an equally significant role as guitars. By contributing more warmth, depth, clarity, groove, and detail, it brings more aggression and power to the entire album. Another thing worth noting is how the drums articulate throughout the entire material. At times, those beats, breaks, fills, and accentuations might seem as tribalistic, but all of a sudden, in a matter of seconds, the drummer switches into regular rhythmic patterns, bringing more pace, dynamics, groove, and complexity to those songs. Besides all the noise, the band also perfectly handles those cinematic ambient moments, when calm, soothing, relaxing, ethereal, captivating notes prevail.

“Osorno” is another brilliant album by ever-evolving ###, a true instrumental noise rock masterpiece that shouldn’t go unnoticed. This band continuously proves there’s still time and place for raw, unfiltered, aggressive underground music that sounds as impactful, sharp, and brutally honest as it should be in 2026.
