If you dug deep enough into a regional underground music scene, you couldn’t miss Eva Ras, an interesting music outlet that roamed DIY circles for exactly a decade. Sadly, they recently called it quits, but they left behind a hefty discography worth checking out. Helmed by Filip Stojiljković, a multi-talented musician and noisician, Eva Ras always seemed like a mysterious act, due to the fact that this prolific artist never stated if his music outled was a solo endavour or a full-time band. In both cases, Eva Ras always sounded quite good, delivering recordings where even orchestras could learn a thing or two. Considering emoviolence, screamo, and skramz are his primary weapons in a sonic arsenal, orchestras would be baffled by the chaos, abrasion, aggression, and emotion, combined in an abstract, chaotic, and fascinating way, but that was the whole point of this musical outlet. “Moje Ime, Moj Dom I Moj Teret” is the final recording of this band, and one that definitely deserves the utmost attention of the broader audience. Existing at an intersection between emoviolence, screamo, skramz, and post-hardcore, hardcore purists maybe would not be interested in this release at all, but that doesn’t come as a surprise considering that the skramz scene is a beast of its own and it has a well-deserved place and tremendous respect among the scenesters. One thing is for certain: “Moje Ime, Moj Dom I Moj Teret” sounds brutal, emotional, and beautiful, all while exploring the various sentiments, moods, situations, and circumstances through the hectic, chaotic, relentless, feral lens.
Filip Stojiljković unquestionably possesses a knack for crafting songs that span from profoundly dynamic, groovy, aggressive segments to calm, soothing, relaxing, ethereal moments. Unlike many skramz bands and projects, Eva Ras exemplifies how perfectly structured songs can work in overly chaotic emoviolence world. Across sixteen composition, Stojiljković showcases how clever arrangements, brilliant ideas, and outstanding musicianship have their place and purpose in a genre where raw, unfiltered, aggressive noises, feral screams, and fast beats reign supreme. His vocal performance could be best described as high-pitched, maniacal, primal screams and shouts, often going out of control for a very good reason. His voice carries emotional weight, complexity, and lyrical content, while handling sadness, desperation, melancholy, etc. The excellent guitar performance has its place and purpose here, delivering chaotic, heavily distorted guitar riffs, paired with all those calm and soothing harmonies, melodies, interludes, themes, and other sonic maneuvers during particular moments. These guitar works are so perfectly crafted, and they immensely support Stojiljković’s vocal performance. You’ll also notice some noisy moments, especially excursions into the power electronics realm when the artist employs high gain, reverb, and metal scraping in order to deliver a colossal wall of noise. It does not go into a static harsh noise wall but more into multi-layered power electronics.
The rhyhtm section plays a significant role here, as it delivers those fundamental deep, dense, warm low ends and acts as immense support and counterweight to the high-gain guitar maneuvers. The bass guitar brings more warmth, depth, clarity, melody, and heaviness, all while binding the mentioned orchestrations with rhyhtmic patterns. Speaking of the rhythmic patterns, the drums are absolutely chaotic here, leaning towards brutally fast blastbeats, dynamic fills, various accentuations, breaks, and other similar acrobatics. They land like a barrage over all those riffs, making this material so chaotic and aggressive yet profoundly emotional. If you love emoviolence, screamo, scramz, and post-hardcore from the bottom of your heart, you should immediately head to a Bandcamp page and purchase this gem on tape. It’s packed with nothing but sincere, unfiltered, raw emotion, heavy riffs, and insanely fast blastbeats. A true masterpiece of the regional emoviolence scene.
