Pranatricks – Cobras

Cobras” is the latest single by Pranatricks, a Canadian artist based in Vancouver. It’s his first track this year and the sixth number in a row from the series of singles that started in 2023. After so many excellent songs like “Worlds,” “Birds And The Bees,” “Lights & Machines,” “Johnny Self,” and “Cor-Al,” Pranatricks walks an already paved path with his new composition. However, the artist included innovations like more complex instrumentations, and multi-layered vocals, to name a few. Soundwise, this experienced artist still explores the psychedelic rock universe and gradually combines regular staples like alternative, indie rock, and indie pop, but he also incorporates some sonic ingredients borrowed from shoegaze, synth rock, cinematic ambient, etc. All these elements work to the advantage of “Cobras,” which shine with some of the best ideas you’ll hear in contemporary psych-rock music.

The song commences with Pranatricks’s recognizable vocal harmonies, which glide over the raw, abrasive, fuzzy, heavily distorted guitars. These riffs gradually become even more gritty, noisy, heavy, and aggressive, serving as adequate support for all the vocal maneuvers. The layers of vocal articulations also work to the advantage of this track, making it such a calm, soothing, relaxing, ethereal listening experience that much more levitates towards shoegaze and cinematic ambiance than psychedelic rock. Still, there are many guitar and synth experimentations involved that might resemble something late sixties, seventies, and eighties psych-rock and psych-pop bands used on their recordings. Pranatricks thoroughly planned all these sonic maneuvers, so all the vocal, guitar, and synth layers are skillfully combined into a colossal slab of well-articulated sounds. Some of these instrumentations will appeal to all the experimental or avant-garde fans, thanks to all the properties that sometimes levitate towards ambient noise, industrial, noise, or even harsh noise.

There are more than enough leads, themes, melodies, and harmonies, so “Cobras” hold the listener’s attention with ease. This composition will challenge your listening apparatus to catch all the instrumentations, accentuations, tiny details, and nuances. Pranatricks fully stacked his latest track with those hidden gems, so you will have a great time discovering all of them. Also, it’s good to mention that the artist excluded the rhythm section. Unlike his other tracks, “Cobras” solely relies upon guitars, synths, and other manipulations. It suits the ambiance, and you’ll not feel like this track lacks rhythmic support.

“Cobras” exemplifies Pranatricks’ ability to write, compose, and record songs in any genre without sacrificing the primary sonic direction. You should check out this composition as soon as possible if you’re looking for a more experimental side of psychedelic rock, shoegaze, or ambient music. The single is available on all streaming platforms. Don’t miss it.
