Bristol’s Grandmas House unveil plans for their long-awaited debut album, Baby You’re A Winner, ahead of an August 21st release on Brace Yourself Records.

The news is accompanied by the release of the album’s title track, ‘Baby You’re A Winner’, a taut, tight three-minutes of expansive rock that’s all springy basslines and interlocking guitar riffs. At the centre of it all is guitarist and vocalist Yasmin Berndt’s syrupy, raspy bark which rises above sumptuous vocal harmonies as she touches upon themes of lifting those you love into the light you’ve always seen them in.

Speaking of the track, the band offer: “‘Baby You’re A Winner’ is a rock n roll love anthem about seeing the beauty in your loved ones when they can’t. It’s about the frustration of your friends or partner not being able to see themselves for the winner they are – an ode to bring you up when you’re feeling down.”

The single is joined by a tongue-in-cheek, game show-style video, directed and produced by Clump Collective, that adds to the sense of playfulness in the album’s title.

‘Baby You’re A Winner’ is a perfect illustration of the elevated musicality of the album that bears its name. Linking up across the record’s twelve tracks with producer Ali Chant (PJ HarveyPerfume GeniusYard Act), Baby You’re A Winner showcases a real levelling up for Grandmas House: more layered and involved than their trio of previous EPs – Grandmas House (2021), Who Am I (2023), Anything For You (2025) – with a greater focus on the use of vocals and harmonies to embolden the meticulously crafted arrangements.

It’s the sound of the quartet – completed by Poppy Dodgson (vocal, drums), Zoë Zinsmeister (bass, vocals) and Polly Jessett (guitar) – bringing a greater sense of nuance and space to their music, while deploying myriad genres to maximum effect. From the righteous, elasticated rock of recent single ‘DOG’ to the syncopated post-punk and brass blasts of ‘Dance’ and on to the chamber folk ambiance of closer ‘Spring’, Baby You’re A Winner is the most authentic, realised portrait of Grandmas House to date.

The songs here navigate a precarious balancing act between sadness and catharsis, ultimately landing in a place of salvation – the product of the band’s tight-knit friendship, this album is their gift to the world, born from a period of grief and hardship but emerging from the other side with profound love and strength. It’s a testament that even when the odds are against you, anyone can be a winner.

“We wrote this album about the existential crisis of going through life,” explain the band. “It’s about love and infatuation but also about grief and loneliness. It’s emotional, powerful, sad and a good time all at once.”

It’s been a hugely successful spring for the band on the live front, including a much-lauded stint at SXSW as well as a largely sold-out European tour last month with shows in GermanySwitzerlandthe NetherlandsDenmarkBelgium and France, and recent UK festival dates at The Great EscapeDot To DotBearded Theory and more. Grandmas House have toured prodigiously in recent years, opening for Big Special on a recent UK tour and for Arxx across Europe and supporting the likes of IdlesPigsx7Katy J PearsonTV Priest and more, while they also recently sold-out their own headline tour of Germany in 2025 and have hit up festivals including Reading & LeedsSŵnGreen Man and more.

The band’s early EPs and singles have been widely lauded at UK press and radio, with praise from the likes of NMEDIYClashDorkThe Line of Best FitSo YoungLoud and Quiet and countless others, and radio support from Steve LamacqChris HawkinsCraig CharlesNew Music Fix and Amy Lamé on BBC 6 MusicJack Saunders on BBC Radio 1Matt Wilkinson on Apple 1John Kennedy on Radio X and more.
