Emphasis – Black.Mother.Earth LP (Geenger Records)

Craving for atmospheric music has become enormous in recent years and every here and there you can stumble upon some good bands who are exploring those waters, especially if you’re music nerd like myself. Bandcamp, SoundCloud, Youtube or Spotify are loaded with such bands, so if you’re into that specific genre, those streaming services will get you covered. Luckily, I heard for Emphasis through their publisher Geenger Records and this quartet from Čakovec, Croatia are not joking when it comes to very creative arrangements. Black.Mother.Earth LP can be best described as a very progressive melancholic journey into the depths of some undiscovered cavern full of hidden, dark, depressive, emotional melodies which will melt your brain and shake ears off your head. Emphasis are cultivating slow post-metal, post-rock, almost sludgy sound with tons of reverb and delay effects on vocals and instruments. Also, female choir vocals on the opening track are a very good addition if we speak about the overall listening experience. Guitars are constantly playing with fade ins and fade outs, while the almost eerie melodies are passing before you, so you’ll get the feeling like you’re a part of some very pleasing sonic voyage with bits of structural anxiety presented with amazing dynamics. Speaking of dynamics, Emphasis know how to deal with their arrangements, tunes are not boring at all and you’ll not be bored while consuming this fine piece of plastic. Geenger Records done it once again, this vinyl looks incredible and professionally done. The cover artwork is a slightly modern abstract piece of art and it suits well to the music of the Emphasis. You can grab your own copy of Black.Mother.Earth LP by simply visiting Geenger Records bandcamp profile.
