Electronic math rock project Absorbance releases Tonecrusher EP, exploring alternative microtonal tuning systems outside 12-TET.
Electronic and math rock project Absorbance recently unveiled their new self-produced EP, Tonecrusher, which landed on September 30. Serving as a conceptual precursor to an upcoming release triptych, the five-track mini-album merges complex rhythmic structures with microtonal alternative tuning systems outside standard 12-tone equal temperament (12-TET).
Each track utilizes a different tuning pattern, exploring unconventional harmonic intervals within a modern electronic sound design framework. The artist states the goal was to balance experimental acoustic theory with cohesive electronic production. Following the arrival of the second chapter, Extender, on October 16, the xeharmonic trilogy will conclude with Hypertoner in November 2026. Tonecrusher is streaming now.
