In these weird times, when the algorithm dictates what you will first notice on social media and streaming platforms, it has become difficult to get in the spotlight and reach the audience who might be interested in your music. If you even paid the slightest attention to what’s happening right now in the music industry, you probably know how artists and bands struggle to be heard. It seems that the weight of accessibility, overwhelming content imposed by the algorithm, and the sheer predictability of everything you see and hear on social media and streaming services has thrown the audience to the opposite side, making them uninterested in discovering anything fresh, unique, innovative, and, by all means, different from anything that the algorithm proposes as fun content nowadays. While these rules apply to almost every part of the globe, you can possibly imagine how hard it is for the band that emanates from the Balkan region to be discovered. You can be as creative and virtuosic as possible, but everyone will ignore you because you do not fit the current hype. Thankfully, every now and then, a band appears that manages to reach the crowd with its sharp lyricism and catchy music, and Šarena Pojava is unquestionably one of those bands that succeeded in doing so. With their debut, “Ravnoteža,” digitally released in 2021, and later on, also released as “Ravnoteža Deluxe” as a vinyl record in 2025 via Geenger Records, this incredible Croatian band based in Sisak proves there’s still a place for alternative music on the regional scene. And not for alternative rock music only, but for catchy, memorable, engaging crossovers with hip-hop, indie, and any other stylistic directions that go slightly off the alternative rock schemes yet sound majestic, anthemic, and all around brilliant.
But what makes “Ravnoteža Deluxe” such an incredible record? Is it a commanding vocal performance with sharp lyricism in the native Croatian language, memorable horns that immediately penetrate your ears, catchy guitar works that brings that irresistible unfiltered tone, intricate basslines that bring groove upfront, or dynamic rhythmic patterns that keep everything in line? To be quite honest, all these elements play a significant role in this sonic equation. When you hear anthems like “Kul Je S Tobom Čilat,” “Zašto Ja To Sebi Radim?,” “Pljugu Stiskat,” “Mrtvi Sisak,” “Umoran, “Princ,” and “Surf,” you’ll get the idea what Šarena Pojava is all about. The band wisely promoted these songs as standalone singles at the very beginning of their career, gradually building the hype around their luxuriant sound. “Ravnoteža Deluxe” is so wisely sequenced, so the tracklist includes these singles stick one beside another, offering the listener a streak of bangers that will leave a tremendous impact. Of course, the remainder of the material is equally good, with songs like “Ravnoteža,” “Pobjeć’ Odavde,” and “Bolji Čovjek” rightfully standing beside those hits. To put is simply, Šarena Pojava created all killer no filler material that will not only appeal to alternative and hip hop fans but anyone who appreciates thoughtfully assembled and flawlessly performed music. Sonically, this material is packed with some of the finest sonic maneuvers you’ll hear. The members of this brilliant band are fully aware of how their songs could and should sound, so each composition arrives with perfect structure, fully stacked with clever arrangements, profoundly detailed segments, brilliant ideas, and outstanding musicianship. Each verse could be easly be as anthemic as a chorus, or vice versa. They provide a perfect platform where you could easily catch yourself singing every lyric they provide. The way those horns cut through the abrasive riffs while the warm-sounding basslines articulate flawlessly with well-accentuated beats go beyond comprehension so many times throughout the entire material. And atop all of that, there are highly convincing vocal lines, harmonies, melodies, and singalongs, making this material as persuasive and anthemic as possible.
Lyrically, Šarena Pojava found a sweet spot between personal and socio-political content, often navigating hardships of life, love, relationships, and living in modern society through a personal lens. But even then, when their lyrics might seem subtly pessimistic and defeatist, they find a light at the end of the tunnel and bring back a cheerful atmosphere that encourages you to continue going through life with your chin up high. To put it simply, Šarena Ravnoteža excells both lyrically and sonically, making “Ravnoteža Deluxe” such a memorable listening experience worth revisiting every time you need a perfect blend of alternative rock and hip hop music. You do not want to miss this sonic experience. Head to Geenger Records for more information about ordering this gem on vinyl.
