Televised Mind – Mind Over Matter

In the ever-evolving music scene, only a few bands manage to deliver a fresh, unique, exciting, and innovative sound that goes beyond regular clichés. There are many excellent bands, but somehow, all of them seem to be trying to reinvent the same old wheel repeatedly without introducing any new moves that will draw in more listeners. Thankfully, Televised Mind were always a band that breaks the rules, shapeshifts the boundaries, and experiments with everything they have at their disposal. “Mind Over Matter,” their recently released standalone single, is a prime example of an alternative rock song done right. From the onset, their songwriting, composing, arranging, and producing abilities pop up, wrapping around the listening apparatus and refusing to let go long after the track ends. Still, Televised Mind have not only explored elements of alternative music here. Quite the contrary, they incorporated some of the finest sonic ingredients borrowed from indie, garage, psych, post-punk, and rock ‘n’ roll, spicing things up and elevating the entire structure to an entirely new level without sacrificing their primary sonic direction. This level of dedication to the craft is rarely heard or seen nowadays, proving that Television Mind are a standout that demands your utmost attention. These various approaches, different techniques, and an entire amalgam of complementary styles resulted in a composition that will not only appeal to the alternative rock fans but also to anyone who appreciates cleverly assembled and flawlessly performed music.

Many factors play a key role in this sonic equation. Whether we’re talking about vocal, sonic, or rhythmic maneuvers, Television Mind thoroughly planned everything. However, the passionate, soulful, sincere, confident, emotive, powerful vocal performance steals the show here by serving as a centerpiece, commanding attention, elevating everything to new heights, and guiding listeners on an epic journey through the vast sonic universe. These vocal maneuvers are shouty yet melodic, perfectly balancing low, mid, and high notes with such precision and finesse. They emphasize everything the remainder of the band intended to achieve with this track. Besides decorating all those segments and orchestrations, these vocal harmonies provide more than necessary emotional depth and complexity over an already intricate structure. In the meantime, the interplay between guitars shapes a perfect backdrop for all the vocals to shine upon. You’ll notice all those catchy riffs, chord progressions, harmonies, melodies, and themes lurking around. These interplays become even more complex as the song progresses, while the generous servings of distortion create a raw, abrasive, gritty ambiance. Televised Mind shape almost psychedelic, garage, post-punk atmosphere, yet they still channel some of the finest alternative rock vibes through every strum over the guitar strings. Also, it’s nearly mindblowing how all these orchestrations pair vocals harmoniously, making “Mind Over Matter” even more appealing to the ears.

Of course, the rhythm section propels everything to new heights. You’ll notice all those equally impressive low ends rumbling beneath the guitar. Despite being slightly suppressed by guitar layers, you’ll still hear each note delivered by this important instrument. The amount of clarity, depth, and heaviness delivered by the bass guitars acts as a counterweight to all those high notes. It also serves as a binding element that binds guitar works with rhythmic patterns while bringing more detail, groove, and power to the entire song. And this track wouldn’t simply sound complete without the exceptional drumming performance, based upon wisely assembled, flawlessly performed, well-accentuated beats, breaks, fills, and other percussive acrobatics. Each hit of the snare, kick of the bass drum, accentuation on a high hat, and splash over cymbal makes this song even more pleasing to the ears. “Mind Over Matter” is a perfect alternative rock song by all means. It carries everything you ever wanted from this long-evolved music genre, but in a more innovative, fresh, and unique form. Televised Mind prove once again why they’re a standout music act on today’s scene. “Mind Over Matter” resonates with decades of experience, knowledge, skills, talent, ideas, and dedicated musicianship. Therefore, you should immediately check it out. It’s available on all streaming platforms.
