“Cut Me Up” represents the further solidification of 18Fevers’ core sound as a band. While only three songs in length, each song has a unique sound that represents the influences of 18Fevers musically and lyrically.
The title track “Cut Me Up” is a dark and danceable post-punk number exploring the nature of bad relationships that hurt so good you keep coming back.
“Just A Nipple” bluntly spits fury and anger through old school hardcore punk at the double standards women face in society as their bodies have been reduced to overlysexualized objects to be hidden so as not to offend.
“Ignorance” is a catchy but wry modern punk take down of people not wanting to take the first step in making changes in the world but rather hiding behind the mantra of
“ignorance is bliss” and forgetting any problems that may make them uncomfortable. The sonic and lyrical themes continue 18Fevers’ approach of mixing sounds and genres while dealing with grown up social, political, and personal issues that are at the very center of the punk ethos.
18Fevers was established in 2021 and features Christmas Kwon on vocals/guitar, Yu-Hee on lead guitar/backups, Matt on bass/backups, and Garik on drums. In three years they’ve managed to release multiple singles and two EPs independently while touring the UK and appearing at Rebellion Festival in 2023 and again in 2024. They’ve also collaborated with American skacore band Mutiny and Korean electronic artist Fat Hamster. 18Fevers playfully dubbed their sound as death punk disco due to it’s darker more aggressive nature that also features drum and bass rhythms influenced by various post punk, hip hop, and dance/electronic music. Christmas is known for her raspy, aggressive vocals that evoke female vocalists like Brody Dalle, Cinder Block, and Mia Zapata with a sound reminiscent of the 90’s and 2000’s. Even with the varied influences of each member the one sound that stands out in 18Fevers is old school LA deathrock and hardcore punk. This comes from bass player Matt’s hometown roots in the SoCal area and scene. 18Fevers aren’t content to stick within the boundaries of punk and want to explore more aggressive sounds in the future.
