Coma System - Wired Machines LP - Grazil Records

Wired Machines” is the latest full-length album by Coma System, an outstanding Austrian trio based in Graz. Consisting of ten songs, these folks showcase their recognizable style but also experimenting with some additional styles. For those stumbling upon this excellent band for the first time, Coma System embraces all the vital elements from several complementary music genres. Perhaps noise rock comes to mind first, but you’ll notice how post-hardcore, post-rock, experimental rock, stoner, and many others found their way into this sonic equation. With an expansive sonic arsenal like this one, Coma System have many options to express themselves through various vocal, sonic, and rhythmic maneuvers. Their music sounds fresh, unique, innovative, powerful, heavy, and energetic, making it a perfect pick for anyone even remotely into the mentioned music genres.

Coma System combines many energetic, dynamic, progressive instrumentations with calm, soothing, relaxing, ethereal moments. These continuous levitations between calmness and aggression make this material such an epic sonic journey worth repeating and revisiting over and over again. The band thought about even the tiniest details and nuances while writing, composing, arranging, recording, and producing this material, leaving no room for mistakes. Their attention to detail is nearly mindblowing, as each composition has been performed with such precision and finesse. Of course, the impressive vocal performance plays a significant role in commanding attention and guiding the listening apparatus through each sonic passage while balancing low, mid, and high notes at the same time. These vocal maneuvers highlight everything Coma System tried to achieve with their music by emphasizing all the segments and instrumentations.

In the meantime, the guitars deliver a colossal slab of well-articulated noise through elaborate interplay between rhythm and lead. You’ll notice how catchy, engaging, memorable, perfectly assembled chord progressions and heavy riffs resonate on one side while the other shines with many magnificent leads, themes, melodies, harmonies, and other sonic acrobatics. The vocals and guitars match together harmoniously, ensuring a pleasant listening experience. Coma System also thought about the rhythm section so there are equally intricate low-ends and rhythmic patterns included along the way. You’ll hear how cleverly assembled basslines offer heftiness, clearness, and deepness while simultaneously binding guitars with drums. The impressive drumming based upon intricate, dynamic, odd-time, well-accentuated beats, breaks, fills, and other percussive acrobatics keeps everything in line while dictating groove and pace. Everything sounds superb from beginning to end, and Coma System left no stone unturned while making this album.

Tracks like “Oversampled World,” “Another Universe,” “Inside Out,” “Noise,” “Illusions,” “Fall Apart,” and “The End” are standouts, but you should pay equal attention to the entire album, because “Wired Machines” is a masterpiece worth listening from scratch to finish. The album arrives on black vinyl, empowered by meaningful, dystopian imagery of the masses manipulated by cell phones. Once again, Grazil Records did an excellent job on the packaging, so a pleasant audio/visual experience is more than guaranteed. Head to Grazil Records for more information about ordering.
