Calum Ingram – Cup Of Urafain feat. Micahel G. Ronstadt

Cup Of Urafain” is the latest song by Calum Ingram, an Edinburgh-based singer-songwriter. For this fine piece of sonic artistry, he collaborated with his friend and fellow cellist, Micahel G. Ronstadt. It’s his first single in 2024 and an adequate follow-up of “Show Me The Way,” another exceptional song released last year. However, this composition showcases a different lyric approach, as Calum Ingram dives deep into socio-political criticism aimed toward the current political climate. Through “Cup Of Urafain,” this highly experienced artist promotes love, unity, and respect and points out that lust for power always causes political turbulence and global divisiveness. Soundwise, Calum Ingram combines the singer-songwriter approach with many different but complementary music genres. Perhaps folk rock comes to mind first but you’ll notice how many other styles found their way in this sonic equation. Don’t be surprised if you stumble upon some of the finest properties of ambient rock, alt-rock, alt-folk, indie folk, and many others lurking around. These additional elements serve as more than necessary enhancements, accentuations, decorations, and other details that unquestionably uplift this track on an entirely new level, while the Calum Ingram remains loyal to the primary sonic direction. Therefore, these experimentations with different but complementary music genres resulted in a meaningful, mesmerizing composition that will instantly appeal to even the pickiest listeners and beyond.

It’s nearly impossible to express with words how bautiful this number truly is. You’ll immediately notice that Calum Ingram’s and Micahel G. Ronstadt’s outstanding vocal performances are the centerpiece of this song, emphasizing everything they wrote, composed, and arranged together. Their solo and collaborative singing parts equally balance low, mid, and high notes, decorating all the segments and instrumentations with precision and finesse. Still, their vocals truly shine during the pre-choruses and choruses, where they showcase all their singing abilities. The calm, soothing, relaxing, ethereal instrumentations offer a nearly cathartic atmosphere from scratch to finish. The cello performances contributed by both artists are nothing short of mindblowing, as they continuously emit mesmerizing themes, leads, melodies, harmonies, and ambiances. These instrumentations serve as a perfect backbone that immensely supports the mentioned vocal articulations but also provides listeners with a one-of-kind sonic experience rarely seen on any music scene nowadays.

Of course, this marvelous journey also carries an expertly arranged rhythm section. You’ll notice equally complex, vividly hearable, warm-sounding basslines roaring right beneath all those layers of cellos, offering more than necessary heaviness, clarity, and depth, but also binding the mentioned instruments with drums. The flawless drumming performance is based upon skillfully assembled, well-accentuated, half-time rhythmic sequences, invigorated by the additional percussions. Calum Ingram and Micahel G. Ronstadt thought about everything while writing, composing, arranging, recording, and producing their collaborative composition. They thoroughly planned the entire song structure built upon profoundly detailed segments, intricate instrumentations, thoughtful nuances, and other details. “Cup Of Urafain” offers a fresh and unique listening experience rarely seen on the folk rock scene today. The way these experienced musicians broke all the rules and shapeshifted boundaries of so many genres to create such a magnificent number goes beyond comprehension so many times during the entire song. The single is available on all streaming platforms. Don’t miss it!
