Calum Ingram – The Man

Calum Ingram returns with another fine piece of sonic artistry that will appeal to all the fans of flawlessly written, composed, arranged, recorded, and produced music. After his outstanding collaboration with American cellist Michael G Ronstadt, Ingram offers “The Man,” and otherwordly exploration into many different but complementary music genres. Perhaps rock comes to mind first, but Calum Ingram fully stacked this composition not only with the fundamentals of this genre, but also with some of the finest properties borrowed from classic rock, blues rock, progressive rock, and rock ‘n’ roll. Still, that’s not all. Quite the contrary, this clever singer-songwriter made a step further by introducing funk, disco, groove, and pop elements into this sonic equation. These experimentations with different but complementary music genres resulted in a catchy, hypnotic, addictive, danceable rock number worth repeating over and over again.

Calum Ingram channels the late sixties and early seventies classic rock, funk, and disco sound with “The Man.” As soon as you press play, you’ll notice how all these styles shape such a rich and luxurious ambiance that will appeal to anyone into these music genres and beyond. Ingram fully stacked this number with some of the best ideas and instrumentations, proving he’s capable of making music in any music genre you could imagine. Of course, his cello performance plays a significant role in this sonic equation, paving the way for his outstanding vocal performance and the remainder of the instrumentations. The way the cello works here will surprise you. He incorporated many riffs, harmonies, melodies, themes, and leads, decorating every segment while the addition of a wah-wah pedal makes things even more interesting. The artist stacked several same instrumentations, but played in lower or higher octaves, achieving rich sound that resonates with sheer power from scratch to finish.

Of course, there’s a profoundly dynamic rhythm section that propels everything. You’ll notice intricate, vividly hearable, warm-sounding basslines roaring right beneath all these cello layers, adding more than necessary heaviness, depth, and clarity while simultaneously binding the mentioned instrumentations with drums. The outstanding drumming performance dictates groove and pace with energetic, danceable, well-accentuated beats, breaks, fills, and other percussive maneuvers, which also keep the remainder of the orchestrations in line. You’ll also hear how many keys, samples, and accentuations spice things up along the way, making “The Man” an even more seventies music-inspired piece. There’s no doubt Calum Ingram is one of the most creative, innovative, unique cellists nowadays. He invested all his experience, knowledge, skills, talent, and ideas into it, and his efforts resulted in a mesmerizing rock track that will instantly become a part of your playlist. The single is available on all streaming platforms. Don’t miss it!
