The Sons Of James – Boswell

Boswell” is the latest single by The Sons Of James, a Florida-based melodic punk rock group. This composition serves as an adequate follow-up to “The Real Me” and “All They Told You,” two previous tracks released earlier this year. For those who haven’t paid attention to our pages, The Sons Of James nurtures a fresh and unique style that might fall under the modern melodic punk rock category, but as is usually the case, there’s always more than meets the eye. These folks combine fundamentals of the genre with some of the finest properties borrowed from modern pop punk, skate punk, and “Boswell” even introduces some post-hardcore elements. These experimentations with complementary subgenres resulted in a catchy, energetic, melodic composition that will suit all the punk rockers and beyond. Also, it’s good to mention that The Sons Of James used all these additional elements as more than necessary enhancements, accentuations, decorations, and other details while their primary sound remains in melodic punk rock circles.

Of course, you’ll immediately notice all those dualities between lead and rhythm guitars. There are some cleverly arranged themes, leads, melodies, and harmonies on one side, while the other offers heavy, robust, equally complex chord progressions and riffs. These instrumentations create a perfect sonic landscape that also serves as a superb backdrop for perfectly sung lead vocal harmonies, occasionally backed by anthemic singalongs. The profoundly detailed, vividly hearable, warm-sounding basslines provide more heaviness, clarity, and depth to the mix, but also act as a binding element between guitars and drums. Also, it’s good to mention that “Boswell” wouldn’t sound so energetic without outstanding drumming performance, based upon well-accentuated beats, breaks, fills, and other percussive acrobatics. The Sons Of James thought about even the tiniest details while assembling their latest song, and their effort resulted in a catchy, anthemic tune that will resonate with anyone.

“Boswell” also carries a meaningful, positive message about overcoming drug and alcohol addiction, offering a glimpse of hope for those who’re struggling to sober up. With “Boswell” and their preceding works, The Sons Of James are showcasing all their experience, creativity, talent, ideas, and musicianship, and they’re not the band you want to miss out. These guys have so much to offer to even the pickiest punk rockers and newbies to the genre, so you’ll gladly put this song among your favorites this year. The song is available on all streaming platforms. Don’t miss it!
