The Klittens Release New Single “Taxi”

Amsterdam five-piece, The Klittens, today share their second single “Taxi” from their long-awaited debut album, Have A Heart, due out 25th September. The album will be self-released via Cargo Records. Album Preorder Link

The new single showcases a more adventurous side to The Klittens’ sound. “Taxi” speaks to our sense of restraint, both in its sound and story. A dusky tension-filled track about sliding back into familiar patterns, where choosing to act becomes a choice in itself. The track is driven by dreamy melodies set in a tense atmosphere, the single explores the cycle of inertia: the tendency to get stuck repeating patterns that have long since lost their meaning.

The song is accompanied by a music video made up of footage of local Dutch wildlife that was captured by the hidden cameras of The Dutch Bird Protection Society. Through these images, intimate moments are shared which we would otherwise never see, from the building of the nest to the last fledgeling taking its first flight.

The Klittens combine their love of pop music and dark sentiments with thier unique punk ethos. Drawing inspiration from a wide range of artists including The Ronettes, MF Doom, Dry Cleaning and Kate Bush – they’ve crafted a sound that’s truly and twistedly their own.

What initially started as a creative and political outlet, mutated into a life mission. Their DIY approach – from songwriting to releasing music and tour management – is what drives this ragtag bunch of misfits, Yaël Dekker (vocals), Winnie Conradi (guitar), Katja Kahana (guitar), Marrit Meinema (bass guitar), and Laurie Zantinge (drums), to be who they are today.

As with their previous EPs, The Klittens succeed in blending their individual and often divergent styles into a solitary all-round experience. Their imagination only being limited by their instrumentation, the band have made an album that takes influences from country to pop to (post-) punk, but with a Klittens’ twist. With only four instruments and five vocals, each of the ten tracks is a separate lyrical story in its own right.

Have A Heart paints a heavy picture with pastels. Both an accusation and a plea, the title speaks to the core of the album; feelings of powerlessness which we all experience in our lifetime and the way we fight against them.

Have A Heart follows their EP’s Citrus (2022) and Butter (2024). The Klittens have toured extensively across Europe and the UK, and shared stages with Otoboke Beaver and BODEGA. As a part of the Dutch indie wave that includes bands like Personal Trainer, Real Farmer, Lewsberg and Pip Blom, The Klittens also organise their own annual festival Klitfest in the Netherlands.
