Shoegaze and psych rock enthusiasts eagerly awaited the latest offering from Los Angeles-based group Tombstones In Their Eyes, and for a pretty good reason. Their brand full-length album, Sea Of Sorrow, is a worthy continuation of their previous recordings but also showcases many innovations in terms of songwriting, composing, and producing. With elements borrowed from genres like shoegaze stoner, sludge, doom rock, alternative, indie, and ambient, the band effortlessly blends these influences to create a unique and captivating musical experience. Sea Of Sorrow emits a calm, soothing, and almost cathartic ambiance. The cleverly assembled heavy riffs, equally complex low-end notes, and moderate rhythmic sequences based upon well-accentuated beats and percussive acrobatics add depth and dimension to the compositions, keeping the listener engaged from start to finish.
One of the most notable aspects of this album are the outstanding, calm vocal harmonies that serve as a centerpiece for each composition. Tombstones In Their Eyes guide the listener through their musical journey with ethereal voices that beautifully complement these orchestrations. The seamless integration of soothing singing technics into the general sound further enhances the immersive experience of Sea Of Sorrow. Tombstones In Their Eyes showcases their growth and maturation as artists by continuously pushing the boundaries of their craft. The album combines familiar elements of psych-rock with innovative techniques, resulting in a refreshing sound that captivates the listeners. From the hypnotic guitar work to the intricate layering of instruments, each track on this album demonstrates their commitment in crafting perfect psych-rock music.
The band’s ability to seamlessly blend various genres never ceases to amaze. Tombstones In Their Eyes expertly incorporated elements from shoegaze, stoner, sludge, doom rock, alternative, indie, and ambient, creating a dynamic and eclectic sonic landscape. The diversity of influences keeps the album captivating, as you never quite know what musical turn awaits you next. Experimenting and exploring different genres showcases the band’s versatility and depth as musicians. Still, you’ll notice their signature moves and commitment to the shoegazey psych rock. Kitten Robot Records did marvelous work with the packaging. Sea Of Sorrow comes in high-quality cardboard sleeve decorated with profoundly detailed illustrations that give this material even more charm. This time the band and label decided to go with standard black vinyl, which perfectly suits the packaging. Of course, Sea Of Sorrow sounds magnificent on vinyl compared to a digital release, so I highly recommend the vinyl version. Head to Kitten Robot Records for more information about ordering this psych-rock gem.
