Prima Queen release their critically acclaimed debut EP “Not The Baby”, out today on Big Indie Records. Recent singles “Back Row” & “Crow” have won a groundswell of support across press and radio; including BBC 6Musicplaylists which follows continued support at the station. Prima Queen also shared the new video for “Dylan” – watch it HERE.
“Not The Baby”, produced by Ali Chant (Aldous Harding, Katy J Pearson, Yard Act), is a collection of songs exploring the bittersweet range of emotions around growing up, and how change can affect your most intimate relationships.
Prima Queen say: “We’ve both experienced a lot of change in the past few years and since we write all our songs together we’re usually drawn to write about our parallel experiences.
In this EP we explore different types of change – birth & death, leaving & returning – and how it can affect our relationships. It’s a reflection not only on our own feelings but also the feelings of our family, friends and lovers.
We’re really excited to finally release a complete body of work, rather than stand alone singles. These songs are meant to be listened to together and we want people to experience the emotional journey that they create.”
Prima Queen established themselves as one of the UK’s most exciting new bands in 2022 with The Guardian dubbing them “Transatlantic indie stars” and The Independent“a remarkable new band in the making”. The band toured incessantly through the year supporting the likes of Wet Leg, The Big Moon, Dream Wife, Sunflower Bean, Mystery Jets, Whitney and appearing at festivals including SXSW, Pitchfork Paris, Latitude, Green Man, Boardmasters and Wilderness.
Prima Queen are an all-female indie/alternative rock band fronted by songwriting duo and best friends Louise Macphail (Bristol, UK) and Kristin McFadden (Chicago, USA). Combining vulnerable and nostalgic story telling with light-hearted lyrical imagery, their ethereal yet gritty style draws influences from artists such as Haim,Jenny Lewis, Big Thief, Sufjan Stevens and Fleetwood Mac.
