Abstract Concrete today announce their second album Guilty Buildings, set for release November 19th 2026. The co-founder of This Heat and Camberwell Now, Charles Hayward, recently entered his eighth decade, but instead of slowing down, he’s actually stepping the pace up dramatically. The band released their debut album self-titled album in 2023 to a tonne of critical acclaim. They also today share new single ‘You Will Be Happy’
On the new single, Abstract Concrete say :
“At its core the song is a lullaby of coercive control. The song takes its title from corporate forecasts which offer a secure tomorrow in the face of multiple global crises. Many of the possible situations work at small, medium and large scale and are for your comfort and convenience.
Composed on a battery powered keyboard with internal drum machine at the heart of the recording the song occupies a space between advertising anthem and nursery rhyme hiding a soft darkness“
After two European tours covering 11 countries and various festival appearances including UK’s Dig That Treasure and Outer Waves and Spain’s Primavera Festival – the London based collective today share light on new plans and new directions.
Imagination and communication, intense playing and emotional connection, pushing at new ideas and attitudes with momentum, rhythm and big tunes; human music making. With a raw sound dealing primarily in forward pulse, the six songs on Guilty Buildings take a slow arc across the strange now and possible futures. The evolving mood moves through questions more than answers with concentrated lyrics and a persistent physicality making a fugitive sense of urgency.
Recorded in Charles Hayward’s underground studio in amongst visual artists at Lewisham Arthouse and mixed at producer/engineer Nathan Greywater’s Listening Ear just off Deptford High Street, Guilty Buildings’ grows out of South London everyday life and noise, adding to a long history of outsider sound from origin punk through drum ‘n’ bass to the prolific D.I.Y. scene.
Abstract Concrete bring together some of the most exciting and forward-thinking young London players from a diversity of European underground and experimental scenes.
