“It’s not much, but it’s Honest Work”, started as an off-the-cuff slogan, but listen to London alt-rock quartet Honest Work and you’ll know it now carries a different weight.
Arriving today (30th September), debut EP ‘Another Broken Glass’ stays true to their mantra. Capturing the chemistry and chaos of the band’s performances, the EP was tracked by the band live to a vintage 70s tape machine at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios with producer Xavier Sinden (Punchlove, silt.). Packed with thick guitar riffs, pummelling beats and brooding atmospheres, the EP’s 5 tracks see the grisly weight of existentialism lifted up by Honest Work’s direct, down-the-line hard-rock muscle and a habit of belting out a chorus or two at the top of their lungs.
Leading the EP release, with their most belted chorus of all, is the surging stadium-sized punk of new single ‘Energy’. Powered by the jet-fuel of a thumping heart-beat rhythm and the thunderous growl of a baritone bass, it’s a standout from a live set that continues its headline run across the UK next month.
Speaking more about the new single, the band say ““Energy is a song about being frustrated or stuck in a rut with romance. The repeated line “I get this feeling”, is used to represent the feeling of going nowhere, just the same thing over and over and over. And then the chorus is a burst of energy (hence the name), an outburst of emotion from the locked jaws of the situation at hand.
Firmly established within the capital’s grassroots scene (the band also feat. members of Saloon Dion and Lemondaze), Honest Work continue to build live momentum with festival slots under their belt at Left of The Dial, East London Block Party, Live at Leeds and Outer Town, as well support slots for the likes of Westside Cowboy, Home Counties, Martial Arts, FEET, Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard and Grandma’s House.
