Lisa LeBlanc Shares New Single “A Fleeting Thought Becomes Another Fleeting Thought”

Polaris-nominated Acadian songwriter Lisa LeBlanc has today announced her new album, Patchwork, out 29th January 2027 via Bonsound and released lead single, “A Fleeting Thought Becomes Another Fleeting Thought” with a video by Alexandre Pelletier. Lisa LeBlanc delivers a playful take on repetition on “A Fleeting Thought Becomes Another Fleeting Thought,” the opening track from Patchwork, her sixth album. Set to a galloping rhythm, the song builds in intensity with dramatic organ melodies and a folky 12-string electric guitar while showcasing Lisa’s enchanting vocals. The layers of repeating vocal harmonies echo her restless nature and the fleeting thoughts that often cross her mind before she can even grasp them, a theme that directly inspired this new earworm.

Lisa LeBlanc explains, “This was the first song to be written on what would become the Patchwork record. I wanted the chorus to repeat multiple times to create a sort of hypnotic drone that mimics the restless feelings and thoughts that constantly spiral in my mind. The influences were a mix of ‘Edge of Seventeen’ by Stevie Nicks, 60s rock and roll and even a little medieval touch with the 12-string electric guitar.”

Director, Alexandre Pelletier says “Aiming for exceptional performances in exceptional settings was the mantra that guided us while making this music video. Much like the song, the Acadian landscape is as magnificent as it is mysterious. Both during location scouting and filming, we were mesmerized by the sunsets that lit up the fields and the twilight mist gliding across the water—and we tried to capture those moments on camera.”

Much like a travel journal, Patchwork offers an observation of everyday life set to music with sensitivity and humour. The roots of the album stretch from Moncton, New Brunswick, to Lafayette, Louisiana, two cities separated by more than 3,500 kilometres, a distance that Lisa LeBlanc travelled in her van during a two-month road trip. In the years leading up to the recording of her sixth album, Lisa LeBlanc spent time in Corsica, where the rugged landscapes struck her, and in Ireland, where the cliffs and traditional music festivals brought her a new creative spark.

Though nature plays a significant role on this new album, Lisa channels her love for 60’s and 70’s folk and rock music to create a rich tapestry of melodies, harmonies, and grooves. She also draws inspiration from traditional Cajun and Acadian music, thus crafting an original, timeless sound that only she could have conceived.

The album’s title, Patchwork, is a nod to Lisa’s grandmother, who, for over 50 years, has been making quilts carefully from fabric scraps that were not originally meant to be sewn together.

Lisa LeBlanc has a reputation for singing in English, French, and Acadian patois. Her finger-picking banjo and rockin’ electric guitar make for a must-see live show — joyful, candid with occasional headbanging. Lisa is also known for musical plot twists, like 2022’s Chiac Disco — a dance record that earned her multiple Félix awards at ADISQ, an ECMA, a Juno nomination and a spot on the Polaris Music Prize Shortlist.

For the new album, Patchwork, it all started with a jam session. It’s the kind of thing Lisa grew up with in Rosaireville, New Brunswick: kitchen parties with her grandmother on piano and aunts, uncles, cousins, mom and dad playing in local bands. In Moncton, Lisa began songwriting in both French and English. Her self-titled debut came out kicking in 2012, francophone folk with spirited banjo-playing and the quirky, self-deprecating humour Acadians are well known for. The record earned platinum sales, an ADISQ Breakthrough Artist award, a Juno nomination, and French audiences in Quebec and across the country.

Her lo-fi roots EP Highways, Heartaches and Time Well Wasted (2014) was the first curveball, with its English lyrics and punk rock banjo. Two years later, she released Why You Wanna Leave Runaway Queen?, which led to her first Polaris Music Prize nomination and extensive touring in North America and Europe. 

Patchwork is a journey across countries and cultures. Recorded in Moncton with some of the Chiac Disco gang, and in Louisiana, it adds Acadian fiddle to her banjo and electric guitar. Songs for late-night drives and mountain hikes, rowdy kitchen parties and quiet reflection. The title of this intimate yet relatable album is an ode to Lisa’s grandmother’s quilting, an art she’s practiced for over 50 years.
