Allan Jamisen – Closing In

In so many ways, global and personal events affect not only our lives but also our views of ourselves and the world. They shape how emotive, vulnerable, strong, and powerful we are, and, in most cases, change our direction toward good or bad. And while the majority of artists and bands explore these themes through their music, the contemporary scene has never been saturated with many music outlets failing to convey their emotions in a proper, honest way. Somehow, their music always left us with a feeling like there has been something missing or their works may seem like a complete fakery, fabricated in order to get more likes on social media, and listenings on streaming platforms. Thankfully, there are singer-songwriters who, sadly, represent a minority in the music world, but are sincere, confident, and convincing in their artistic expression, forcing listeners to take a deep dive into their music catalog after listening to a song or two. Allan Jamisen’s music does just that. His songs are so beautiful, captivating, emotionally, and sonically resonant to the point you wish to dig into his back catalog and discover more. “Closing In,” the latest standalone single released on May 16th, is one of those compositions that immediately wraps around your listening apparatus and refuses to let go. Lyrically, it’s a haunting and deeply introspective new single born from personal upheaval and creative reinvention. Allan Jamisen excellently explores various sentiments, moods, situations, and circumstances, making this composition highly relatable and suitable for a broader audience. Sonically, “Closing In” is an amalgamation of several different yet complementary music genres. You’ll immediately notice how indie rock continiously lurks around, as the artist incorporated all the fundamental elements of this genre, but also, do not be surprised if you stumble upon some of the finest properties of art rock, alternative rock, alt-pop, indie pop, electronic, and synth music. Jamisen’s creativity shines through every stylistic incorporation, as these additional sonic ingredients serve as more than necessary enhancements, accentuations, decorations, and other details that make this song such a catchy, memorable, captivating listening experience worth repeating over and over again.

As soon as you press play, you’ll notice how Jamisen’s calm, soothing, relaxing, ethereal, and deep voice serves as a centerpiece, elevating everything to new heights, commanding attention, and guiding listeners on an epic journey through the expansive sonic universe. Like his instrumentations, his voice, alongside additonal vocal layers and back vocals, gradually builds a hypnotic, addictive, irresistible ambiance, dragging you into a whilwind of sincere emotions and lush instrumentations. His soulful, passionate, sincere, confident, and powerful vocal performance seamlessly balances low, mid, and high notes with such precision and finesse, emphasizing everything he intended to achieve with this song. Besides decorating all those segments and orchestrations, his voice contributes more than necessary emotional depth and complexity over an intricate song structure. Beneath all those lush vocal layers, you’ll hear how an equally impressive guitar and synth work shape a perfect backdrop for all the vocals to shine upon. The synths deliver subtle yet notable themes, melodies, harmonies, pads, and other sonic maneuvers, while the guitars work the same way, but in delivering jangly, angular chord progressions, riffs, and accentuations. It’s nearly mindblowing how all those layers articulate together without overwhelming each other, proving that Allan Jamisen thought about everything while writing, composing, arranging, and producing his song. The artist cleverly, thoughtfully, tastefully incorporated basslines beneath all those lush synth and guitar works, making this composition even more groovy and detailed. You’ll notice how all those subtle low ends roam around, contributing more than necessary heaviness, clarity, and depth while simultaneously acting as a binding element between the mentioned orchestrations and rhyhtmic patterns. In the meantime, the perfectly programmed, flawlessly accentuated, dynamic beats, breaks, fills, and other percussive acrobatics keep the remainder of the instruments in line while dictating groove and pace. Each instrument has its place and purpose here, making “Closing In” such a perfect indie composition.

Allan Jamisen has created a magnificent composition that not only conveys sincere emotions but also shapeshifts the boundaries of indie music we know today. While it carries all the fundamental elements of the genre, “Closing In” shines with some wild, sophisticated, captivating energy and ambiance, immediately dragging the listener into a luxuriant sonic whirlwind. It’s a fresh, unique, innovative indie song that tackles all the senses, so you should immediately place it on your music radar. Do not miss it!
