Spokane powerviolence It’s A Setup will release their debut self-titled 7” on May 8 via Two Two One Press. The 7” marks the first studio output of the band.
Since its founding in 2024 by Hayes Noble (guitar/vocals) and brothers Parker Bytnar (drums) and Mason Bytnar (Bass), It’s A Setup has turned heads in the Pacific Northwest hardcore scene with a throwback approach to both sound and substance. Later joined by Everett Noble (bass), the two sets of brothers have attacked the PNW with their massive two bass bottom-heavy sound, and ear-splitting in-your-face rage.
Taking their cues from the likes of Dropdead, MK Ultra, and Undertow, It’s A Setup has created a unique sound, melding the chaos of powerviolence with the intensity and power of early metallic hardcore. Inspired by the scene built around the Ebullition label in the 90s, It’s A Setup has taken a “more than music” approach with lyrics, art, and live show. Their self-titled debut is a blistering 8 song, 45 rpm 7” full of blast beats and breakdowns. A limited run of 200 are available on red vinyl. In support of the EP, It’s A Setup will be hitting the road this summer for a West Coast tour, while continuing to play throughout the PNW in the interim.
In addition to It’s A Setup, members are active in other projects. All four are heavily involved in the growing Spokane DIY scene, with different sounds all linked by punk ethics. The Bytnars make up 2/3 of Bad Trip Motel, their post-hardcore band that has played throughout the region, releasing several singles since 2023. In addition to backing his brother’s solo work, Everett Noble releases music as Dairybaby, a throwback indie project with an LP on the way this summer. Since 2022, Hayes Noble has been touring and releasing records under his own name.
His two LPs full of fuzzed-out noise pop have received praise from multiple punk and indie outlets. More recently, he’s taken on bass duties in PNW straightedge band X-Reality. In addition to his own projects, Noble has recorded recent work by Puddy Knife, Kurb, and upcoming releases from Wicked Issue and Index.
