Beloved Swedish garage-punk 5-piece Stupidity are back with a brand-new single, “Carolina,” arriving March 27 via Wicked Cool Records, alongside the launch of album pre-orders for their forthcoming full-length, ‘Beyond Stupidity,’ out June 19.
A high-octane blast of rhythm and attitude, “Carolina” finds the band locked in — a driving, hook-laden cut that fuses raw garage grit with undeniable soul and swagger. It’s a sound Stupidity have spent years refining, and here it lands with renewed urgency and purpose.
Reinvigorated by a revamped lineup in 2020—featuring original members Tommy Boy (drums) and Erniz (lead vocals), alongside JV (guitar) and Heurika (bass)—the band used the downtime of the global shutdown to tighten their chemistry and sharpen their attack. The result was their acclaimed 2021 album Waking Up The Band, recorded with Keith Streng of The Fleshtones, which reasserted their place in the modern garage-rock landscape.
Since then, Stupidity have continued to build momentum, including a run of U.S. shows last fall that reaffirmed their reputation as a relentless live act.
Longtime champion Little Steven Van Zandt has played a key role in amplifying the band’s reach, selecting eight of their songs as “Coolest Song In The World This Week” on his globally syndicated Underground Garage radio show. Highlights include fan favorites like “On The Run” and “Reindeer Twist,” while their music has also appeared on the soundtrack to the hit Netflix series Lilyhammer, including an on-screen performance of “King Midas.”
With “Carolina,” Stupidity kick off a new chapter — one rooted in their signature no-frills rock ’n’ roll ethos but charged with fresh energy and forward momentum. Loud, loose, and built to move, it’s a reminder that some bands don’t fade — they just get louder.
