“Donald Duck” is the latest single from New Haven, CT alt-punk outfit Dagwood, streaming now on all platforms. It lives up to the promise of the band’s motto: “good songs and catchy hooks played loud.”
On the track, Dagwood undergirds their signature smirking alternative rock tinged punk with a bouncy indie rock groove and guitar pedal sorcery. However, the catchy pep of the song belies its fraught lyrical subject matter of epistemological crisis and social debasement. This is exemplified in the song’s titular coinage of “(going) Donald Duck,” an homage to that Disney character’s style of dress –nude from the waist down.
“Donald Duck” is the first official release from the band since their critically commended 2024 EP Pollyanna Visions. As on Pollyanna Visions, “Donald Duck” was engineered and mixed by Justin Pizzoferatto (Dazy, Wild Pink, Dinosaur Jr.) and mastered by Carl Saff (White Reaper, Ken Mode, Sonic Youth).
