New Have indie punks Dagwood are getting ready to roll out a new 6 song EP on July 30th. The band recorded the entire material at Sonelab in Easthampton, MA with Justin Pizzofferato (Parquet Courts, Dazy,Dinosaur Jr), who also mixed the songs.
Today, they release a new single, “Trying to Be Kind.”
Dagwood and its related projects have been a dependable part of the Connecticut punk and indie scenes since the early 2010s, drawing members from Hostage Calm and Heavy Breath among many others. In addition to music, the outfit has developed a local reputation for its video sister-project, Mindplow, whose productions have ranged from a Lynchian public access show to hosting a hoax festival to cast their mumblecore film.
In 2023, Dagwood garnered positive critical attention for a string of singles many of which were ultimately collected on an EP, “Everything Turned Out Alright.” Stylistically “Pollyanna Visions” builds on the successes of that material and takes a significant sonic step forward. On the new release, the pop subtleties that helped “Everything Turned Out Alright” shimmer appear more stable and self-assured. Thanks to engineer and mixer Justin Pizzoferrato, the college rock majesty of the material shines through without losing any of the band’s indie-punk vitality.
