Faded Shades – What I’m on About

What I’m On About” is the latest single by Faded Shades, an outstanding Swanley-based trio. It’s their first single this year, acting as an adequate follow-up to “My Place (Or Your Place),” “Stay,” Heartache Calling,” and “Waiting On Tomorrow,” excellent compositions released throughout 2022 and 2023. Soundwise, Faded Shades combine many different but complementary music genres to illustrate such a rich and luxurious sonic imagery. Perhaps indie rock comes to mind first, but you’ll notice how all the vital elements borrowed from alternative, garage, hard rock, and classic rock found their way into this sonic equation. They use all these additional elements as more than necessary enhancements, accentuations, decorations, and other details to uplift their music on an entirely new level while simultaneously staying true to the primary sonic direction. Therefore, their experimentations with many different but complementary subgenres resulted in a marvelous composition worth repeating over and over again.

As soon as you press play, you’ll notice how these profoundly creative musicians thought about even the tiniest details and nuances while assembling their latest number. “What I’m On About” arrives with a perfect song structure stacked with cleverly arranged segments, garnered with nothing but brilliant ideas and exceptional musicianship. This track carries a massive wall built upon multiple layers of harmonious sound. You’ll immediately hear how the interplay between lead and rhythm guitar builds a perfect backdrop for all the vocal articulations to shine upon. The tastefully assembled chord progressions and riffs burst on one side, while the other delivers leads, themes, melodies, harmonies, and other sonic delicacies. In the meantime, outstanding vocal performance serves as a centerpiece, emphasizing all the sections and instrumentations. The perfect balance between low, mid, and high notes commands attention while guiding listeners through each section of the song. Also, it’s nearly mindblowing how vocals and guitar match harmoniously.

This track wouldn’t be complete without a powerful rhythm section. You’ll notice how the equally intricate, vividly hearable, warm-sounding basslines rumble beneath those guitar layers, offering heaviness, clarity, and depth. This particular instrument also acts as a glue, binding the mentioned orchestrations with drums. The experienced drummer dictates groove and pace while keeping the remainder of the band in line with expertly assembled, flawlessly performed, well-accentuated beats, breaks, fills, and other percussive acrobatics. Every band member plays a significant role in this sonic equation and their marvelous performances are solely responsible why this song resonates with so much power, precision, and finesse. “What I’m On About” is a song you will gladly place on your indie playlist because Faded Shades is one of those bands that never disappoints. Their collective experience, knowledge, skills, and talent are on display here, and you should put their music on our radar as soon as possible. The single is available on all streaming platforms. Don’t miss it!
