Sun Mahshene – New Shores (Radio Edit)

New Shores (Radio Edit)” is the latest track by Sun Mahshene, an exceptional Dublin-based band. It’s their first single in 2024, serving as an adequate follow-up of “Reverie,” another outstanding composition released last year. Mastered by Mark Gardener of the legendary band Ride, “New Shores (Radio Edit)” embraces the fundamental elements of shoegaze music, but you’ll notice how many different but complementary music genres found their way into this fine piece of sonic artistry. The band incorporated some of the finest properties borrowed from alternative, psych, and indie rock to illustrate such rich and luxurious sonic imagery. Sun Mahshene uses all these additional elements as more than necessary enhancements, accentuations, decorations, and other details to uplift this composition on an entirely new level while they simultaneously remain loyal to the primary sonic direction. Therefore, these experimentations with many different but complementary styles resulted in a mesmerizing number that will appeal to true shoegaze fans and beyond.

As soon as you press play, you’ll notice how Sun Mahshene thought about even the tiniest details and nuances. They flawlessly constructed the entire song structure, so you’ll hear how every cleverly assembled segments arrive with many brilliant ideas and exceptional musicianship. The outstanding vocal performance acts as a centerpiece, emphasizing everything this skillful musicians tried to achieve with their latest song. These vocal harmonies glide over low, mid, and high notes with such ease, commanding the attention and guiding the listener through every section. You’ll also notice how the guitars intervene harmoniously, building the backdrop for all the vocal articulations. Therefore, you’ll stumble upon the tastefully assembled, generously distorted chord progressions and riffs on one side, while the other side emits catchy themes, leads, melodies, and harmonies. Also, it’s good to mention that it’s nearly mindblowing how vocals and guitars match together during every segment. Empowered with generous amounts of reverb, they create a calm, soothing, relaxing, ethereal, echoic sound, usually hearable in shoegaze tracks.

Of course, the band also thought about the rhythm section, so you’ll hear how the equally intricate, vividly hearable, warm-sounding basslines lurk beneath all those guitar layers, offering more than necessary heaviness, clarity, and depth while binding the mentioned orchestration with the drums at the same time. The excellent drumming performance dictates groove and tempo but also keeps everything in line with energetic, well-accentuated beats, breaks, fills, and other percussive acrobatics. Every instrument plays a significant role in this sonic equation, and Sun Mahshene thoroughly considered every move. There is no doubt this track will immediately grab your attention. Their ability to merge the shoegaze fundamentals with vital qualities of alternative and indie music will immediately convince you to place this song on your playlist. Sun Mahshene poured all the experience, knowledge, talent, skill, and ideas, resulting in one of the best shoegaze tracks this year. The single is available on all streaming platforms. Don’t miss it!
