Coming off their 2021 release Kriminals!, Shonan are ready to finally gift us some new music with a fresh single titled Play Me Something, out now via Rocketman Records. This is the first material off the band’s upcoming EP. Shonan wanted to go off the beaten track and they managed to renovate their sound in a song that blends alternative rock and punk rock/pop punk with more diverse influences, from hardcore to ‘90s shoegaze.
“In our songs, we’ve often pondered about the necessity to find someone willing to seriously listen, to establish a true and meaningful contact”, says the band. “Play Me Something is a part of those songs. In everyday life, we clash with people who try to exert their control through indifference. Oftentimes, a sentence like “play me something” hides nothing but a lack of interest. It’s in those moments that we need to try to take a stand, try to stop believing the promises of those who only want to control you and keep you grounded”.
Shonan was formed in Parma, Italy, in a room several meters underground in February 2011. Within a short time they had enough music to get out of that room and start playing gigs. Their sound is a clash of punk and hard rock, their lyrics dramatically autobiographical, and their desire to be heard makes Shonan shows energetic and engaging. After the release of the album Farewells & Pillows and the two singles Uh, Sha La La! and Fall from Grace, the trio released the single She’s a Wolf in 2018, and in October 2021 the second album Kriminals!. An EP is also scheduled for release in 2024, led by single Play Me Something out via Rocketman Records. The new track blends punk, alternative and hardcore.
