“Look My Way” is a fantastic debut single by Rat Palace, a Brooklyn-based quintet. These immensely talented musicians combine many different but complementary music genres to illustrate such rich and luxurious sonic imagery. Perhaps modern grunge comes to mind, but you’ll notice how some of the finest properties borrowed from post-hardcore, post-punk, indie rock, alternative, shoegaze, and noise pop found their way into this marvelous sonic equation. Rat Palace uses these additional elements as more than necessary enhancements, accentuations, decorations, and other details to uplift their debut number on an entirely new level, while simultaneously remaining loyal to the primary sonic direction. Therefore, these experimentations with different but complementary styles resulted in a composition that will satisfy even the pickiest listeners.
As soon as you press play, you’ll notice such a powerful, heavy, abrasive sound delivered by the entire band. The tastefully arranged, heavily distorted riffs serve as a perfect backdrop for outstanding vocal performance. Still, Rat Pack also incorporated many exceptional leads, themes, melodies, and harmonies, which add a touch of complexity. These guitar dualities unquestionably work to the advantage of this track. The vocal harmonies skillfully balance low, mid, and high notes, emphasizing everything the remainder of the band tried to achieve. You’ll notice how vocals and guitars flawlessly match, while the equally complex, vividly hearable, warm-sounding basslines offer more heaviness, depth, and clarity. It’s also good to mention that these low-end notes also act as a binding element between guitars and drums. Speaking of rhythm section, “Look My Way” wouldn’t sound this good without excellent drumming performance based upon energetic, dynamic, well-accentuated beats, breaks, fills, and other percussive acrobatics that not only dictate groove and pace but also keep the remainder of the instrumentation in line. Every band member plays a significant role in shaping such a mesmerizing ambiance.
Rat Palace thought about even the tiniest details while working on their debut track. You’ll hear how they carefully assembled song structure by implementing segments that carry many impressive orchestrations. They incorporated all the vital ingredients from many music genres, so “Look My Way” will undoubtedly appeal to the broader auditorium. Also, the sound quality that meets all the trends in modern music production makes this track another standout on the contemporary indie scene. It’s one of those songs that immediately grabs your attention and refuses to let go, thanks to Rat Palace’s ability to write, compose, and record music that avoids all the cliches. You should put “Look My Way” on your radar immediately. The single is available on all streaming platforms. Don’t miss it!
