Thunder Club – Cedar

Cedar” is the latest single by Thunder Club, a Baltimore-based indie quartet. It’s their first single in 2024 and an adequate follow-up to “Try Your Luck” and “Venetian Blinds,” two excellent compositions released last year. Soundwise, Thunder Club combines the fundamentals of indie rock sound with some of the finest properties borrowed from many different but complementary music genres, so don’t be surprised if you stumble upon alternative rock, art rock, hard rock, and rock ‘n’ roll elements along the way. They use these additional elements as more than necessary enhancements, accentuations, decorations, and other details that unquestionably uplift this track on an entirely new level, while they simultaneously remain loyal to the primary sonic direction. Therefore, these experimentations resulted in a catchy track that will appeal to anyone even remotely into rock music.

As soon as you press play, you’ll notice how Thunder Club skillfully balances between calm and heavy segments. Their brilliant ideas and exceptional musicianship shine in both cases, offering a wonderful listening experience to the listener. The outstanding vocal performance serves as a centerpiece that guides listeners through all the segments, while the perfect balance between low, mid, and high notes emphasizes all the instrumentations provided by the remainder of the band. You’ll also hear how guitars play a significant role in shaping such a magnificent backdrop for all these vocal harmonies. The contrast between calm, soothing, relaxing, ethereal verses and much heavier, powerful, aggressive choruses makes this song even more exciting. It’s nearly mindblowing how many ear-appealing melodies, harmonies, themes, leads, chord progressions, and riffs Thunder Club invested into this song. “Cedar” resonates with so many catchy semi-clean chord maneuvers during the verses, while the chorus offers almost fuzzy, raw, abrasive, powerful riffs that immediately get into your ears and refuse to let go.

Of course, this composition wouldn’t sound this good without equally complex, vividly hearable, warm-sounding basslines, which serve as a binding element between guitars and drums, but also provide heaviness, depth, and clarity. The outstanding drumming performance offers groove and pace with tastefully assembled, well-accentuated beats, breaks, fills, and other percussive acrobatics. The continuous splashing over the cymbals contributes to an almost reverby ambiance that perfectly matches the heaviness of the chorus. Thunder Club thought about everything while writing, composing, arranging, recording, and producing their latest single. You’ll notice how the complex song structure gradually reveals every segment empowered by their tremendous ideas and precise musicianship. Every band member offers a premium musicianship, making “Cedar” one of the finest modern indie songs. You should immediately put “Cedar” on your radar because Thunder Club are one of those bands who know how to bring only the finest qualities of the genre to the table. The single is available on all streaming platforms. Don’t miss it!
