Wild Horse – Wednesday Night Distractions

Wednesday Night Distractions” is the latest single by Wild Horse, an exceptional Brighton-based indie trio. It’s an adequate follow-up to the “Attraction,” “Do You Wanna Talk,” “Tangled,” “Angles,” and “Cougar,” outstanding singles these prolific musicians released in 2023. Soundwise, the group continues where they left off last year. You’ll notice how indie sound reigns super, but Wild Horse also incorporated many ingredients from different but complementary music genres like yacht rock, synth rock, Brit-pop, indie pop, etc. They use these additional elements as more than necessary enhancements, accentuations, decorations, and other details that undoubtedly uplift their latest single on an entirely new level, while the band remains loyal to the primary sonic direction. Therefore, these experimentations resulted in a catchy, energetic, flawlessly executed track that will appeal to even the pickiest indie rock fans.

As soon as you press play, you’ll notice that “Wednesday Night Distractions” resonates with modern indie sound, but also evokes the eighties and nineties music. The implementation of synth rock, yacht rock, and Brit-pop is solely responsible for this, and Wild Horse masterfully balance all these eras. Once again, they implement funky, profoundly detailed, tastefully assembled chord progressions that serve as a perfect backdrop for the magnificent vocal performance. The vocal harmonies are unquestionably the centerpiece, emphasizing all the segments and instrumentations. You’ll notice how the skillful vocalist balances between low, mid, and high notes with such ease, decorating everything the remainder of the group tried to achieve with this track. It’s good to mention that the bass guitar plays a significant role in this sonic equation, with complex, vividly hearable, warm-sounding low-end notes offering heaviness, clarity, and depth. These basslines also serve as a binding element between guitars and drums. “Wednesday Night Distractions” wouldn’t sound this good without outstanding drumming performance based upon energetic, well-accentuated beats, breaks, fills, and other percussive acrobatics. Every instrument resonates with precision, contributing to the overall listening experience.

“Wednesday Night Distractions” sounds marvelous from scratch to finish. Wild Horse thought about everything while assembling this song. It showcases all the experience, knowledge, skills, talent, ideas, and musicianship of the band. Their ability to write, compose, arrange, record, and produce a catchy number where all the qualities of the eighties, nineties, and modern music shine, but also simultaneously break all the rules and shapeshift boundaries of the genre goes beyond comprehension so many times throughout the track. You should put “Wednesday Night Distractions” on your radar as soon as possible. The single is available on all streaming platforms.
