Wild Horse – Moments

What comes to your mind when someone mentions indie rock music? Is it a beautiful vocal harmony that immediately penetrates your listening apparatus, a chord progression that shapes the captivating ambiance, a bassline that brings warmth and depth, or a drum beat that propels everything to new heights? Maybe a thoughtful arrangement that forces you to get back to the particular piece once again, or some brilliant ideas that make the song sound so good? Surely, these are all qualities that define indie rock music, and make us to return back to particular compositions over and over again, but if you think about it, artists and bands capable of nailing even a singular quality of those mentioned above are considered rare nowadays. Thankfully, there are still bands like Wild Horse who break all the rules, shapeshift the boundaries, and infuse all those qualities together with an aim of delivering the greatest listening experience for their loyal fans. “Moments,” their latest standalone single released via all streaming platforms today, proves that indie rock music, when done right, can still sound fresh, unique, innovative, and exciting, just like the first time you’ve heard it on the radio. But of course, this composition wouldn’t shine so brightly if there weren’t many other styles involved. Surely, the indie rock sound shines the most, as Wild Horse incorporated all the fundamental elements within each segment, but do not be surprised if you stumble upon some of the finest properties borrowed from many different yet complementary styles, like indie folk, indie pop, power pop, country, and other similar styles. Some readers might think there are too many genres involved here, but do not worry, Wild Horse knows what they’re doing, and they’re doing it the best. By merging all these elements together, they created a catchy, memorable, engaging, captivating listening experience worth repeating over and over again.

And there are many details that make “Moments” one of the finest indie rock songs you’ll hear in recent years. First of all, you couldn’t just listen to this composition without mentioning the marvelous vocal performance that immediately wraps around your listening apparatus and refuses to let go long after the last notes and beats fade away. The soulful, passionate, sincere, confident, and powerful vocals elevate this piece to new heights, command attention, and guide listeners on an epic journey through the expansive sonic universe. It’s nearly mindblowing how each vocal line balances low, mid, and high notes with such precision and finesse, decorates each segment and orchestration, and contributes more than necessary emotional depth and complexity over an already intricate song structure. You’ll also notice how the additional back vocals give more depth and detail to the song during the choruses. It’s a nice touch that makes this composition so anthemic and captivating. In the meantime, the comprehensive collection of instrumentations shapes a perfect backdrop for all the vocals to shine upon. The acoustic guitar plays a significant role here, delivering all those catchy, memorable, engaging, jangly chord progressions. These guitar works expand later on, with the additional, tastefully distorted chord progressions and riffs, but these are just subtle touches that give this song a more luxurious sound. On the other hand, the keys offer subtle melodies, harmonies, accentuations throughout the entire song, making this acoustic indie song so complex when it needs it the most. It’s nearly mindblowing how each layer articulates smoothly without overwhelming the remainder of the instrumentation, proving that Wild Horse thought about everything while assembling this composition. And the way the rhythm section supports those guitars and keys is also worth praise. The warmth, depth, and groove delivered through deep, heavy, warm, intricate basslines and steady rhythmic patterns brought through well-accentuated beats, breaks, fills, and other percussive acrobatics elevate this composition on an entirely new level. Each instrument has its place and purpose here, making “Moments” such an outstanding piece of sonic artistry.

Wild Horse are one of those bands that never cease to amaze with their musicianship, ideas, and innovation. With “Moments,” they prove that indie music is still alive and kicking, and most importantly, an important piece of the larger sonic puzzle. This band continuously showcases all their experience, knowledge, talent, and skills in the best possible way, and if you’re looking for an emotionally and sonically resonant song that tackles all the senses in the right ways, then you should place “Moments” on your music radar immediately. Do not miss this gem!
