Jody Cooper – Isolation

German singer-songwriter Jody Cooper has recently released “Isolation,” an emotive rock ballad that captures the essence of collective experience during a global pandemic through storytelling lyricism. It’s his first single this year, showcasing all his experience, knowledge, skills, talent, ideas, and musicianship as a songwriter, composer, and artist. Soundwise, perhaps “Isolation” embraces the fundamentals of indie rock sound, but you’ll undoubtedly notice how many other music genres found their way into this sonic equation. Don’t be surprised if you stumble upon the sonic ingredients borrowed from indie folk, folk rock, alt-pop, and pop rock. Cooper combines all these additional elements with his magnificent singer-songwriter abilities to enhance, accentuate, decorate, and uplift this track on an entirely new level, while simultaneously staying loyal to the primary sonic direction. Therefore, these experimentations with different styles resulted in a marvelous number that will immediately grab attention of the indie fans and beyond.

Jody Cooper thoroughly planned everything while writing, composing, arranging, recording, and producing his latest track, and you’ll unquestionably hear how every instrument has its well-deserved place in this fine piece of sonic artistry. The wisely arranged leading piano melody serves as a perfect backdrop for Cooper‘s marvelous vocal performance that skillfully balances between low, mid, and high notes. His voice emphasizes all the segments and instrumentations, giving more complexity to the entire song. The reverby guitar leads and semi-distorted, arpeggiated chord progressions come as more than the necessary layer that supports those piano leads, while the equally complex, vividly hearable, warm-sounding basslines provide heaviness, depth, and clarity. Of course, this composition wouldn’t sound this good without exceptional drumming performance that not only provides groove and pace but also keeps the remainder of the instrumentations in line. As you can see, every instrument has its place and purpose here, and Jody Cooper thought about even the tiniest details and nuances.

Jody Cooper’s vocal and instrumental performance sounds sincere, confident, and powerful from scratch to finish. He conveys a meaningful message about surviving in isolation during the global pandemic with so much style and finesse. The entire song shines with so many highlights, cleverly implemented into every verse, pre-chorus, and chorus. Perhaps Cooper took indie rock as a starting point, but “Isolation” carries so many qualities borrowed from other music genres, so it will appeal to even the pickiest listeners. It’s one of those songs that instantly grabs your attention and forces you to repeat it over and over again. The single is available on all streaming platforms. Don’t miss it!
