Known for channelling the energy and spirit of the mid-00s emo scene and drawing inspiration from iconic bands such as Paramore, Mayday Parade, and Taking Back Sunday, WALWIN has cemented himself as a staple of the UK’s alternative music scene.
Hailing from Essex, just on the outskirts of London, WALWIN spent his formative years in and out of different alternative bands, honing his skills on a variety of instruments. Today, he wears many hats, working not only as a musician but also as a music video director and photographer, capturing the essence of some of the UK’s most promising pop and alternative acts, including Nova Twins and Dani Sylvia.
As the year comes to a close, WALWIN is gearing up for his most significant announcement yet – the release of his highly anticipated debut record, ‘The Prius Diaries: A Hybrid Story’ via AntiFragile Music. This album marks a seismic moment in his career, showcasing a collection of songs that were written solely in his car, a testament to his unwavering commitment and burning desire to succeed.
This collection of songs showcases his dynamic fusion of genres, bringing a refreshing blend of emo, pop-punk, and alternative rock to the forefront. ‘The Prius Diaries’ tells a story that’s both deeply personal and universally relatable, unfolding a musical narrative with a hint of nostalgia while firmly rooted in the contemporary soundscape.
Lead single ‘Halo,’ epitomises WALWIN’s signature sound. With massive guitars, soaring melodies, and screeching vocals, ‘Halo’ is a nostalgic throwback to the golden era of grunge and noise, reminiscent of Paramore and Taking Back Sunday, with a sprinkling of Linkin Park. His euphoric energy shines through in this track, as he describes, “I view Halo as the younger brother of my song Thorns. There’s a lot of similarities down to the timing and feel of it. Lyrically it talks about seeing through someone’s façade and exposing them for what they are.”
With ‘Halo,’ WALWIN delivers pure pop-punk and alternative rock gold. His empowering vocals, huge melodies, and relatable lyrics make this track an immediate sing-along anthem. As a self-produced and self-mixed artist, he has carved out his unique niche in the world of emo pop-punk.
WALWIN’s music is a testament to the here and now, the past, and the future, offering a specially crafted and timeless brand of music that invites listeners to dive headfirst into his musical world.
