I Am The Unicorn Head – Take Me As I Am

Take Me As I Am” is a new single by I Am The Unicorn Head. It’s an outsider anthem that resonates with a meaningful, important message about treating everyone equally and eliminating discrimination based on disability, race, sexual orientation, etc. Soundwise, I Am The Unicorn Head are known for their experimentations with sound, which usually involves indie rock as a starting point. That’s the case with “Take Me As I Am,” too, but this time band takes a straightforward approach with minimal involvement of other styles. However, they subtly implemented some of the finest properties borrowed from other complementary music genres like alternative, acoustic rock, classic rock, psych rock, and indie pop. They do it with so much precision and finesse, and these additional elements enhance, accentuate, and decorate particular sections, while the I Am The Unicorn Head remains loyal to the primary sonic direction.

With Meg Cratty from The Margaret Hooligans as a guest vocalist, “Take Me As I Am” shines with a magnificent indie rock ambiance that will appeal to even the pickiest fans of the genre. Cratty’s outstanding vocal performance skillfully balances between low, mid, and high notes, emphasizing everything I Am The Unicorn Head tried to achieve with their latest single. The catchy, cleverly assembled chord progression performed on acoustic guitar shapes the calm, soothing, relaxing, ethereal sound that serves as a perfect backdrop for Cratty’s vocals. You’ll also notice how cleverly implemented layers of heavily distorted riffs lurk around during the pre-choruses/choruses, and this clever detail unquestionably gives more power to the song.

It’s also good to mention that equally complex, vividly hearable, warm-sounding basslines contribute to the heaviness, depth, and clarity of “Take Me As I Am” but also serve as a binding element between guitars and drums. Even when you thought these experienced musicians fully stacked their song with everything you ever needed from an indie song, there’s a thick layer of keyboard leads and melodies, giving this track a bit more dream pop vibes. It’s a nice addition that will appeal to anyone into psychedelic indie sound. This composition wouldn’t be complete without outstanding drumming performance based upon moderate, well-accentuated beats, breaks, fills, and other percussive acrobatics that provide groove and pace, but also keep the remainder of the orchestrations in line.

As you can see, I Am The Unicorn Head thought about everything while writing, composing, recording, and producing their latest single, while Meg Cratty’s guest appearance decorates and uplifts this magnificent number on a new level. It’s one of those songs that will appeal to die-hard indie fans and those newbies to this genre. The single is available on all streaming platforms.
