Senses Fail – Hell Is In Your Head CD (Pure Noise Records)

Senses Fail released their eighth studio full-length album last year, and it still resonates among loyal fans and music critics. It’s nearly mindblowing how many positive critics this comprehensive collection of emotional post-hardcore compositions got so far, and there’s pretty much a good reason for it. Hell Is In Your Head embraces everything you dearly love about the genre. Buddy Nielsen’s emotive, sincere, confident, perfectly balanced vocal harmonies, profoundly complex melodies, themes, leads, equally complex basslines, and enormously dynamic rhythmic sequences are some of the qualities that define Sense Fail’s luxurious, delicate, and mesmerizing sound. Of course, Hell Is In Your Head wouldn’t sound this powerful without Nielsen’s tremendous songwriting skills, which especially shine on this release. The remainder of the group invested nothing but brilliant ideas backed up by exceptional musicianship. To simplify this as much as possible, these experienced musicians shine on every composition, so you’ll love Hell Is In Your Head if you’re a long-time fan of the band.

Of course, Senses Fail use the fundamentals of modern post-hardcore sound as a starting point, and as much as this particular music genre comes to mind first while listening to Hell Is In Your Head, this is not the only style you’ll stumble upon this ear-appealing journey. The band incorporated some of the finest properties borrowed from pop-punk, melodic punk rock, post-rock, emo, indie, and other similar genres. All these additional elements serve as more than necessary enhancements, accentuations, details, and some other details that unquestionably play a significant role in uplifting the ambiance, but without changing the primary sonic direction. It’s also surprising how every track carries a different atmosphere, but together they make Hell Is In Your Head one pleasant, consistent, well-balanced sonic journey worth repeating over again. From the opening to the closing notes and beats, Senses Fail provides a jaw-dropping listening experience that will satisfy even the pickiest fans of post-hardcore sound. It will also convince many new listeners to dive deep into the remainder of their discography because Hell Is In Your Head is one of the best recent Senses Fail recordings you’ll hear. The album is available on vinyl, CD, and streaming services. Head over to Pure Noise Records for more information about ordering.
