Samiam Sign To Pure Noise Records; Release New Single

Samiam

Berkeley, California- Punk rock legends Samiam have announced signing to Pure Noise Records and today, released single “Lights Out Little Hustler”, their first in over 10 years. The song also features additional vocals from Hot Water Music’s Chris Wollard.

“Lights Out Little Hustler is about becoming emotionally detached and creating obstacles to keep people from being close to you. Wanting to be loved but forgetting how to show it. Knowing that what you have is important, but too afraid to let it be.” Jason Beebout (vocals)

Samiam has been dishing it out for three decades now, longer than some of their fans have been alive. But throughout the band’s musical evolution, from the early days of local Gilman street punk to their current solid-hewn and more widely-ranging style, there’s a particular and recognizable sound that remains their own – you hear a small fragment of a song and you can tell right away – that’s Samiam. This is in no small part due to the distinctiveness of singer Jason Beebout’s voice, which always has a rich recognizable character, depth and sincerity no matter what song it’s in. From back in the early nineties to today, you know he means what he says, he’s not bullshitting. Complementing Beebout’s storytelling, Sergie Loobkoff’s own seasoned brand of guitar playing and songwriting has gone through many developments but retains a unique spark, a sound that has been often imitated but never quite owned by anyone but Samiam. Sean Kennerly has been in the band a mere quarter-century, sharing the guitar-playing, song-writing and back-up singing in a seamless blend of the band’s style. Current bassist Chad Darby and drummer Colin Brooks are both major, excellent musicians who, as you can hear on the new song Lights Out Little Hustler (and as you may have heard live on any one of the many tours and one-offs in decade since they’ve been in the band) bring their blistering playing to every song and lock it down tight with highly skilled artistry.

Lights Out Little Hustler, was recorded in Gainesville by Ryan Williams at his own Black Bear studio, and the distinctive ashtray growl of Hot Water Music’s Chris Wollard can be heard in the back-up singing on the chorus. The recording took place over a year and a half of intermittent tracking, complicated of course by the recent pandemic.
