Vagrants - Be Consumed CD - Equal Vision Records

After outstanding singles like Clarity, Separation, Apathy, Clarity (Re-Imagined), and an exceptional Separation EP, Vagrants are back with their debut full-length release that will unquestionably indulge listening apparatuses of post-hardcore fans. Since their inception, Vagrants were bounded for success, mainly because of their ideas, musicianship, and immense quality bursting from their sonic presence. Just listen to Clarity, and you’ll immediately realize what I am talking about. They gradually shapeshifted their sound over the years until they reached perfection. This band showcases how post-hardcore has changed over the years and how it should sound nowadays. It may not be your cup of tea if you’re looking for some heavy beatdown hardcore, but if you’re a die-hard fan of soothing post-hardcore music, Be Consumed will be right up your alley.

First of all, I would never guess Vagrants are just a trio. These folks sound like there are at least six members involved. The luxurious, thick, reverby sound indicates Vagrants are more than just newbies on the post-hardcore scene, and you would never assume Be Consumed is their debut album. Quite the contrary, this highly creative trio bursts with sheer experience, confidence, and energy, and all these qualities are vividly hearable throughout the entire album. The band fully stacked these ten compositions with enough impressive sonic maneuvers that you’ll probably have difficulties discovering any weak moments while listening. Perhaps post-hardcore is their preferable weapon of choice, but Vagrants are not afraid to delve deep into the fundamentals of other complementary music genres. You’ll hear how this outstanding trio explores some contemporary emo, screamo, indie, and metalcore waters without spoiling the initial post-hardcore direction. Also, don’t be surprised if you stumble upon some other elements borrowed from similar music genres because there are many details implemented beneath the layers of sound.

I like how the guitar and bass harmoniously articulate during each composition. Both instruments burst with powerful maneuvers, which were always the finest properties of post-hardcore music. However, these orchestrations transform into calmy, relaxing, soothing, and longevous indie/post-rock segments when necessary. The exceptional number of catchy themes, hypnotic melodies, divine harmonies, excellent chord progressions, and heavy riffs is nearly mindblowing. The band invested so many ideas into this material, and that’s vividly hearable from scratch to finish. Robust basslines emphasize each guitar maneuver, and this band wouldn’t sound so powerful without those thick low-end tones that lurk right beneath the layer of guitars. Of course, nothing would sound so profoundly dynamic without a mind-boggling drumming performance, which provides an impressive amount of rhythmic segments, accentuations, and drum fills. The entire band burst with sheer quality, and you should put Be Consumed on your radar if you’re looking for some fresh, perfectly executed post-hardcore music. Be Consumed is available via Equal Vision Records, so head to their web store and purchase this gem.
