Yoo Doo Right Release New Single “Sofort, Si Fort”

Montréal experimental rock outfit, Yoo Doo Right, have today released the second single “Sofort, Si Fort” from their fourth full-length album, Build and Rest by the Shepherd’s Light out 6th November on Mothland.

The new track offers subliminal imagery that’s both awe-inspiring and perplexing; its main musical themes and deep counterharmonies hinting at some mysterious tale. In turn, the meditative essay evokes somber feelings of mystical grandeur, with reverb-laden melodic guitars flowing freely atop supple bass VI lines and temperate drum grooves.

Yoo Doo Right’s music weaves contemplative melodies, rich chromatic harmonies, and manifold effect chains into resilient cadences that anchor a shifting landscape of sounds and structures; Justin Cober (electric guitars, bass VI, synthesizers, piano, tape recordings, voice) and John Talbot (drums, percussion) create a unique sound where “towering monoliths of roaring riffs crash against swarms of restless rhythms” (Pop Matters)”.

For the latest chapter of their sonic manifesto, Yoo Doo Right engage with deep sonic exploration, purposeful looping motifs, and dynamic walls of sound, reigniting their unwavering connection to experimental music. Tracks from Build and Rest by the Shepherd’s Light range from loud, amplified forreys into post-rock and krautrock, all the way to highly-tempered, effects-laden pieces akin to ambient, noise, and drone. Straying away from pragmatic boundaries, this offering opts for a rather symbolic approach to creation, the different pieces free to unfold in a myriad of ways upon listening.

Last month, Yoo Doo Right released lead single, “Doldrums, Doldrums, Eviler Than the Devil” which kicks off with a 5-beat mantra-like guitar intro, evolving along a countering 4-beat motorik rhythm, intrically-woven arrangements drawing equally from post-rock and krautrock. The single was accompanied by this video.

Build and Rest by the Shepherd’s Light was recorded by Ky Brooks at Hotel2Tango (GY!BE, Wolf Parade, Do Make Say Think) and Error 403 in Montréal (QC), mixed by Seth Manchester at Machine with Magnets (Battles, Lightning Bolt, Deer Tick) in Pawtucket (RI), and mastered by Amar Lal at Macro Sound (Pile, Hannah Frances, Titus Andronicus) in Oakland (CA).Live, Yoo Doo Right, are as loud and assertive as they are dynamic and ethereal. Never shying away from touring opportunities has led them onto multiple stints in Europe, the United Kingdom, and North America.

Along the way, they have received invitations from Le Guess Who, SXSW, Levitation, Left of the Dial, Reeperbahn Festival, Amplifest, Dunk! Fest, Sled Island, Treefort Music Fest, and M for Montreal, also sharing the stage with the likes of Acid Mothers Temple, DIIV, A Place to Bury Strangers, Wooden Shjips, Kikagaku Moyo and Angine de Poitrine.
