German stoner rock quartet Giant Haze returns with another fine piece of sonic artistry that will immediately appeal to anyone who loves their rock melodic, heavy, powerful, and thoughtfully crafted. Born out of the stoner and hardcore scene, this band delivers music that immediately grabs you by the collar and refuses to let go long after the last notes and beats fade. There’s something in the way their songs were written, composed, arranged, and produced that immediately pulls you into a sonic whirlwind built upon honest emotion and tremendous aggression. That’s the case with “The Healing,” their latest piece that carries all the mentioned qualities in generous amounts, plus even more, if you dig deep into the song’s core. And that examination rewards the listener with all those hidden elements, details, layers, and nuances, crafted with so much precision and finesse. As you might expect, this fine piece of sonic artistry dominates with all the stoner rock qualities you adore, threaded into the soundscape so perfectly that even the most pickiest fans of the genre will listen and praise this song. However, do not be surprised if you stumble upon some of the finest properties borrowed from other similar styles like grunge, alternative, psych rock, hard rock, etc. It’s a superb showcase of their songwriting and composing abilities, packed in a colossal slab of well-articulated noise that you surely do not want to miss.
The lead vocalist delivers sincere emotion, passion, and soul through carefully generated, melodic chants and shouts. His voice packs a tremendous harmony, perfectly balanced with a dosage of vocal distortion that brings more than necessary aggression where this song needs it the most. He balances low, mid, and high notes with such precision and finesse, emphasizing everything that the remainder of the band intended to achieve with this track while simultaneously decorating all the instrumentations, commanding attention, and guiding listeners on this epic sonic journey. There are additional vocal layers, wisely implemented beneath for extra punch, giving anthemic vibes to the song during the particular moments. But, wait until you hear all those guitar riffs in action. The guitars are out of this world, with a comprehensive collection of epic sonic maneuvers that not only give more melody to the track but also more power. You’ll notice how generous servings of fuzz distortion bring more rawness, abrasiveness, and dirtiness, but it doesn’t spoil the melodic nature of the structure. Somehow, these folks found a perfect formula where melody, harmony, aggression, and dirt marry together flawlessly, and this style suits them so well. Of course, those riffs carry everything you dearly love about stoner, grunge, alternative, psych, and hard rock music, but do not be surprised if you stumble upon some surprises along the way, because these experienced musicians know how to rock.
The bass guitar perfectly pairs with all those guitar works. Relying upon dominantly clean notes, the bass rounds Giant Haze’s luxuriant sound with deep, dense, heavy, rich low-ends, offering more than necessary warmth, groove, depth, and clarity. Besides all of that, it also binds guitars with rhyhtmic patterns while perfectly blending itself into the distortion. Therefore, both guitar and bass arrive as an unstoppable rumbling machinery ready to tear down everything in an expansive radius. The exceptional drumming performance, based upon dynamic, energetic, groovy, powerful beats, breaks, fills, and other percussive acrobatics, keeps the entire machinery in line while dictating groove and pace with impressive precision. Therefore, these folks are not joking around with their sound and whatever they record and release, they actually mean it. “The Healing” is one of the greatest stoner rock tracks, not only in these modern times, but generally speaking. It carries all the fundamental elements of the genre while carrying a decent amount of complementary styles along the way. With this composition, Giant Haze proves they are torchbearers of the stoner rock scene and a band you surely do not want to miss live. If you love your stoner rock smart, raw, and loud, “The Healing” will be right up your alley. Do not miss it!
