TV Blackout – The Car Tune

“The Car Tune” is the latest release by TV Blackout, an outstanding American band based in Ypsilanti, Michigan. It’s their first piece of work this year, arriving as an adequate follow-up of “Circles,” another fine piece of sonic artistry released in 2023 that you should also check out as soon as possible if you’re into cleverly assembled and flawlessly performed music. Still, “The Car Tune” arrives with many innovations in songwriting, composing, arranging, and producing, showcasing a natural progression of an already incredible band. Sonically, the band explores many different but complementary music genres to illustrate such luxuriant sonic imagery. Perhaps indie comes to mind first, but you’ll unquestionably stumble upon some of the finest properties borrowed from alternative, classic rock, psychedelic rock, blues, Americana, and many more. TV Blackout uses all these additional elements as more than necessary enhancements, accentuations, decorations, and other details to enhance their sound to an entirely new level while simultaneously remaining loyal to the primary sonic direction. “The Car Tune” carries qualities of all those trends that define modern music production yet there’s a subtle touch of nostalgia lurking around for an extra kick. This combination of old and new makes “The Car Tune” such a beautiful piece worth repeating over and over again. Therefore, these experimentations with different approaches and various styles resulted in a catchy, memorable, engaging composition that will immediately appeal to indie rock fans and beyond.

From the onset, it becomes apparent that TV Blackout poured heart and soul into this track. “The Car Tune” arrives with a perfect structure, adorned with many profoundly detailed segments, brilliant ideas, and marvelous orchestrations. Each vocal, sonic, and rhythmic maneuver has its place and purpose in this sonic equation. As soon as you press play, you’ll stumble upon marvelous guitar works. These calm, soothing, relaxing, ethereal, detailed chord progressions, harmonies, and melodies shape a perfect backdrop for all the vocals to shine upon while the tastefully implemented servings of distortion contribute more rawness, abrasiveness, and grittiness to the ambiance. Above these lush guitar works floats amazing saxophone performance. With all those wisely incorporated leads, themes, and improvisations, this instrument contributes more detail and complexity to an already intricate song structure. Also, it’s nearly mindblowing how the guitars and saxophone work together harmoniously. They’re equally presented in the mix yet those layers don’t overwhelm each other. Quite the contrary, they exist in symbiosis, crafting an otherwordly ambiance that defines this composition. Also, you’ll hear how soulful, passionate, sincere, confident, emotive, and powerful vocal performance elevates everything to new heights, commands attention, and guides the listening apparatus from scratch to finish. These vocal harmonies seamlessly balance low, mid, and high notes with such precision and finesse, emphasizing everything TV Blackout intended to achieve with this song. Besides decorating all those segments and instrumentations, these vocal maneuvers also contribute emotional depth and complexity to an already intricate song structure.

Of course, this composition wouldn’t sound this good without an equally impressive rhythm section. You’ll hear how all those audible, detailed, warm-sounding basslines rumble beneath the guitars and saxophone, offering more than necessary heaviness, clarity, and depth. These low-ends are rich, deep, dense, and heavy, providing more groove to the song. In the meantime, the exceptional drumming performance based upon tastefully arranged, expertly performed, well-accentuated beats, breaks, fills, and other percussive acrobatics keeps the remainder of the orchestrations in line while dictating the groove and pace. Every hit of the snare, kick of the bass drum, accentuation over the hi-hat, and splash over the cymbals cuts the ambiance, adding another layer of detail. TV Blackout thought about everything while writing, composing, arranging, and producing this track. “The Car Tune” exemplifies how indie music can still sound fresh, unique, innovative, and exciting by just adding other complementary music genres to the song’s core. This song also showcases their tremendous experience, knowledge, skills, talent, ideas, and willingness to break all the rules and shapeshift the boundaries of indie rock music. “The Car Tune” is a masterpiece you surely don’t want to miss. The single is available on all streaming platforms.
