Emerging artist MAXSWELL steps boldly into the spotlight with DANCING QUEEN, a cinematic and emotionally charged three-track EP that reimagines 1980s gothic rock through a modern lens. Released May 28, 2025, the collection traverses themes of darkness, desire, and resilience, framed by brooding synths and spectral guitar work.
The title track opens with a driving rhythm and shimmering layers of reverb, evoking the hedonistic underworld of retro dance floors. It’s an infectious anthem steeped in moody glamour. “COME TO THE DESERT” follows, stripping back the polish to reveal a sparse, atmospheric meditation on isolation and self-confrontation.
Closing track “THEN WE COULD DANCE” offers a return to rhythm, balancing melancholia with a flicker of hope. It’s gothic, it’s graceful, and above all, it’s emotionally honest.
With DANCING QUEEN, MAXSWELL emerges as a distinctive new voice, crafting a shadowy, haunting, and hypnotic soundscape.
