With Newborn Fossil, their first release since 2018, Detroit indie/post-hardcore trio Marcus: The Apex Predator! returns with a bold, high-octane collection that blends progressive rock complexity with pop-punk urgency and alt-rock heart. The five-track EP, released in early 2025, captures the band’s signature balance of melodic aggression and lyrical introspection, offering a powerful reintroduction after years of hiatus.
Led by guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter Kevin Watts, alongside longtime collaborator Nick Marko on drums and percussion, the band adds Sean Bondareff (Kind Beast) on bass to round out a potent new lineup.
Recorded and mixed by Jake Shives and mastered by Grammy-winning engineer Dave Feeny at Detroit’s iconic Tempermill Studios, Newborn Fossil represents both a nod to the band’s roots and a confident leap forward.
Marcus: The Apex Predator! is once again carving out space between thoughtfulness and raw energy. Newborn Fossil is now available on all major streaming platforms.
