In the wake of November’s critically-acclaimed debut EP “Eazy Peazy”, a riotous, triumphant first trip to Austin for SXSW in March and the sprightly indie-pop of their last single “Adam & Steve”, currently playlisted at 6 Music, Man/Woman/Chainsaw have found themselves standing at the forefront of a new wave of British bands “most likely to”.
Described by Rolling Stone at SXSW as “a young band in the process of inventing something ecstatically new”, the London-based six-piece share the second half of a special AA release for So Young Records today with their new single “MadDog”. Like “Adam & Steve” it was recorded with Geordie Greep producer Seth Evans & Margo Broom at RAK Studios.
Man/Woman/Chainsaw’s Vera Leppänen had the following to say about the themes behind their new single:
“Mad Dog talks about losing a friend and watching them become everything you thought they wouldn’t. We wrote the song as two parts, the pissed off bit and the sad/nostalgic bit, and recorded it with a quick turnaround which was fairly new to us.”
So Young will release a very limited 7″ of “Adam & Steve / MadDog” on May 23rd with a secret show the night before to celebrate its release. Keep your eyes peeled for more details.
The one-off single will mark the first vinyl release from the band and there will be an additional exclusive pairing the 7″ with a print available only from Rough Trade.
Recently celebrating their 100th gig, at the end of last year the band truly came of age with their debut EP “Eazy Peazy”. Recorded with Gilla Band’s Daniel Fox at Echo Zoo studio in Eastbourne, the group present us with cinematic arrangements, mauled by moments of cacophony; the band’s Billy Ward says of their writing process, “we thrive on the thin line between pretty and noisy, often trying to jump between the two – it’s that chaos that excites us.”
