Michellar – Dreaming

Dreaming” is the latest release by Michellar, a profoundly talented artist based in San Francisco, California. It’s her second piece of work in 2025, arriving as a perfect follow-up of “Home Sweet Home,” another excellent standalone single released earlier this year that you should also check out. Lyrically, the song is about being a dreamer and how important it is to chase your dreams and realize them through life. Sonically, “Dreaming” embraces the sixties sonic aesthetic thanks to a vividly hearable presence of psychedelia. Michellar combines the aesthetics of psychedelic pop and psychedelic rock with some of the finest modern and retro elements. You’ll hear how she combined these ear-appealing music genres with some properties borrowed from classic rock, alternative, and indie. Michellar uses all these additional sonic ingredients as more than necessary enhancements, accentuations, decorations, and other details while simultaneously remaining loyal to the primary sonic direction. While her music carries a sound quality that meets all the trends in contemporary music production, you’ll also notice a dosage of nostalgia lurking around. This balance makes “Dreaming” suitable not only for the longstanding fans of psychedelic music but also those picky listeners looking for cleverly assembled and flawlessly performed music.

As soon as you press play, you’ll notice that Michellar thought about everything while working on this composition. Recorded at The Women’s Audio Mission Recording studio in San Francisco and mastered in the UK, “Dreamer” carries some of the finest vocal, sonic, and rhythmic maneuvers you’ll hear in a while. The song arrives with a perfect structure, adorned with a profoundly detailed segment, brilliant ideas, and marvelous orchestrations. From the onset, it becomes apparent that Michellar poured heart and soul, and you’ll unquestionably hear through her soulful, passionate, sincere, confident, emotional, and powerful vocal performance. These vocal harmonies elevate everything to new heights, command attention, and guide the listening apparatus from scratch to finish while poetic, storytelling lyricism carries a meaningful message that immediately grabs the listener’s attention. Her impressive vocal range seamlessly balances low, mid, and high notes, emphasizing everything she intended to achieve with this song. Besides decorating all the segments and instrumentation, these vocal harmonies contribute emotional depth and more detail to an already intricate song structure.

In the meantime, the cleverly assembled interplay between several guitar and synth layers shapes a perfect backdrop for Michellar’s outstanding vocal performance. You’ll notice how semi-distorted chord progressions resonate on one side while the other shines with many themes, melodies, and harmonies. There are also additional synth layers that contribute more detail to this marvelous sonic backdrop, making “Dreaming” even more appealing to the ears. You’ll hear how these instrumentations resemble something artists and bands from the sixties would eventually record, and this style suits Michellar’s voice perfectly. Of course, this track wouldn’t sound this good without an equally impressive rhythm section. Beneath all these impressive guitar and synth works, there are equally complex, vividly hearable, warm-sounding basslines, offering more than necessary heftiness, clarity, and depth while serving as a glue between mentioned orchestrations and rhythmic patterns. These low-ends are rich, deep, dense, and heavy, contributing more power and detail to such a magnificent composition. The exceptional drumming performance based upon tastefully assembled, flawlessly performed, well-accentuated, moderate beats, breaks, fills, and other percussive acrobatics keeps all those instrumentations in line while dictating groove and tempo. Each instrument plays a significant role in this sonic equation, making “Dreaming” such an incredible listening experience worth repeating over and over again.

“Dreaming” is such a fascinating piece of sonic artistry that tastefully blends retro and modern aesthetics. Michellar showcases tremendous talent, creativity, skills, knowledge, and experience throughout every segment of the song, proving she’s one of the finest artists on the contemporary music scene. Therefore, you should immediately place “Dreaming” on your music radar. The single is available on all streaming platforms. Don’t miss it!
