Wotts – Sinking II

Wotts - Sinking II

After releasing their recent, critically acclaimed single “Sinking,” an exceptional Canadian duo Wotts decided to remix the track and indulge the listening apparatuses of their fans with a new, improved version of the song. The original version already sounded so good, something you had a chance to read about in our previous writings about this incredible band, but these experienced musicians somehow managed to elevate this composition to new heights by stacking even more brilliant ideas and marvelous orchestrations. Those stumbling upon Wotts for the first might expect indie pop sound heavily combined with additional sonic ingredients borrowed from indie rock, synth rock, electro-pop, etc. However, with this remix, Wotts upgraded their song to an entirely new level, emphasizing all those qualities that make the original version so catchy, memorable, engaging, and beautiful. They incorporated many additional details, nuances, accentuations, and instrumentations, making “Sinking” such an adorable track that almost leans towards some synth pop, synth wave, new wave, vapor wave, dream pop, shoegaze, and cinematic ambiance. With all these elements and enhancements luring along the way, you’ll notice all dedication to the craft and brilliance of this band. It’s nearly mindblowing how all these additional details articulate harmoniously, delivering a nearly cathartic listening experience, suitable for even those picky music enthusiasts who seek perfection in every vocal harmony, melody, and beat.

Wotts tried to leave the initial song’s core intact as much as possible. Therefore, you’ll still notice that perfect structure, adorned with all those profoundly detailed segments, brilliant ideas, and marvelous orchestrations. However, in this rendition, everything resonates with more power, presence, harmony, melody, and reverby ambiance. The vocals are still vividly hearable in the mix, commanding the attention and guiding the listening apparatus with so much precision and finesse from scratch to finish. The calm vocal harmonies hoover above all those low, mid, and high notes, emphasizing every beat, bassline, and chord progression while the additional back vocals contribute to those cathartic, anthemic vibes. It’s fascinating how all these vocal layers contribute to the overall listening experience, decorating each segment and instrumentation while making “Sinking II” so pleasant to the ears to the point it’s worth repeating it over and over again. In this rendition, Wotts placed synths and keys upfront, emphasizing their admiration towards electronic, synth pop, and new wave music. These synth works shape a perfect backdrop for all the vocals to shine upon, as they deliver expertly constructed sequences, chord progressions, harmonies, melodies, themes, and leads. Each interplay between synth layers is carefully considered so as not to spoil the remainder of the instrumentation, and everything sounds beautiful and surreal. You’ll also notice how all those guitar riffs and chord progressions resonate harmoniously with the synths, spicing things up and elevating everything to new heights.

Wotts left no stone unturned while remixing this track, so you’ll notice how profoundly complex, vividly hearable, warm-sounding basslines rumble beneath, contributing warmness, heaviness, and depth to these orchestrations while binding everything together with the rhythmic patterns. These rich, deep, dense, heavy low-ends contribute more power but also add a touch of already-mentioned complexity that unquestionably suits the ambiance. They also worked on the rhythmic patterns, so the beats, breaks, fills, and other percussive acrobatics are heavier and more powerful, cutting the ambiance with punch and groove. These rhythmic patterns are wisely constructed, programmed, and well-accentuated, working to the advantage of the entire song. Once again, Wotts showcases why they are one of the finest Canadian indie pop bands. Their willingness to break all the rules and shapeshift the boundaries of conventional indie music goes beyond comprehension so many times throughout this track. They poured all their knowledge, experience, heart, and soul into the remix, creating a composition that will gather even more fans. It’s a catchy, memorable, impressive tune worth revisiting over and over again. Head to your favorite streaming platform and play it loud. Don’t miss it!
