RISE feat. stayMellow – The Way You Make Me Feel

The Way You Make Me Feel” is the latest release by RISE, a superb English band based in Liverpool. It’s their first piece of work in 2025 and fourth collaboration with stayMellow in a row, arriving after the excellent “Memories And Possibilities” EP and standalone singles like “Here I Am” and “Healing Hearts.” Lyrically, the song explores the positive impact that supportive long-term relationships have on people, bringing their best qualities to each other as they go deeper into the relationship. It tackles various sentiments, moods, situations, and circumstances, making it a highly relatable composition that will unquestionably resonate with the broader auditorium. For those who somehow missed our previous writings about this incredible band, RISE combines several complementary music genres, creating an emotionally resonant, ethereal ambiance. Perhaps alternative rock comes to mind first, but you’ll unquestionably stumble upon the fundamental elements borrowed from indie rock, synth rock, new wave, pop rock, etc. They combine all these additional sonic ingredients with such precision and finesse, making “The Way You Make Me Feel” one of the finest alternative rock tracks you’ll hear this year. The band continuously balances between nostalgia and modern sound, making this track appealing not only to the longstanding alternative rock fans but also to those music enthusiasts stumbling upon this music genre for the first time.

From the onset, it becomes apparent that RISE and stayMellow are not joking around with their music. They fully stacked this composition with some of the finest ideas and instrumentations you’ll hear in a while. The guitar works are impossible to ignore, as all those interplays shape such a lush backdrop for all the vocals to shine upon. The catchy, memorable, engaging leads, themes, melodies, harmonies, and other sonic maneuvers shine on one side while the other resonates with generously distorted riffs. Of course, the band also implemented reverby, echoic arpeggiated chord progressions during the calmer moments making this composition diverse as much as possible. The guitar solos are vividly hearable in the mix, spicing things up and elevating everything to new heights. In the meantime, there are also synths lurking around, providing even more layers of instrumentation, creating a profoundly intricate ambiance without overwhelming or spoiling other instrumentations. Another serving of fascinating leads, melodies, and harmonies delivered via synths resonates beautifully, complementing everything these experienced musicians intended to achieve with their latest composition. Like in their previous works, the vocals play a significant role. Those vocal harmonies serve as a centerpiece, commanding the attention and guiding the listening apparatus from scratch to finish with such precision and finesse. The impressive vocal range seamlessly balances low, mid, and high notes, decorating each segment and orchestration while the additional back vocals deliver anthemic vibes to the song. It’s nearly mindblowing how all these vocal layers contribute emotional depth and elevate the entire track to new heights.

While the guitar and synth works shape a perfect backdrop for all the vocals to shine upon, the equally impressive rhythm section rumbles beneath, providing groove, depth, and stability. You’ll notice how the warm-sounding, vividly hearable, profoundly detailed low-ends roar beneath those orchestrations, offering heftiness, clearness, and deepness while binding guitars and synths with rhythmic patterns. Those baselines are rich, deep, and heavy, contributing more power to this number. The outstanding drumming performance keeps everything in line while dictating groove and tempo with well-accentuated, cleverly assembled, flawlessly performed beats, breaks, fills, and other percussive acrobatics. RISE and stayMellow poured heart and soul into it, and you’ll notice how this song arrives with a perfect structure, garnered with detailed segments, brilliant ideas, and marvelous orchestrations. Each vocal, sonic, and rhythmic maneuver is carefully considered, showcasing their dedication to the craft. “The Way You Make Me Feel” is a magnificent display of their experience, knowledge, skills, and talent, an alternative rock masterpiece worth repeating over and over again. Whether you’re a fan of this genre or not, you should check it out. The single is available on all streaming platforms. Don’t miss it!
