The Bad Ups are a four-piece punk outfit based out of Philly and its surrounding areas. Heavily influenced by Epitaph & Fat Wreck bands of the 90’s/early 2000’s, they also draw inspiration from traditional ska and reggae artists. Somewhat in the vein of Bad Brains, they are the product of the merged genres.
Being of Jamaican descent, frontman Travis McKayle has appropriately repurposed the Caribbean patois term “baddup” (meaning to treat someone in a violent/bad manner) as the band’s namesake. Fitting to the hard-hitting style of some of their songs that can only be rivaled by their ability to tap into the heart of where the patois term originally comes from.
Since forming in 2018 The Bad Ups developed a solid fan base and have shared the stage with notable acts such as Face to Face, The Bouncing Souls, The Addicts, Street Dogs, and more. They have created a sound that appeals to the various subcultures of the punk scene like ska and Oi!, making them a “jack-of-all-trades” band fitting on a wide range of bills.
The band released their highly anticipated full-length “Life of Sin” on September 27th through Jump Start Records with plans to tour nationally and internationally.
