Swiss artist GINA ÉTÉ releases ‘F***you:you’ first single off her upcoming new album Prosopagnosia due for release in February 2025.
F***you:you is a song, a statement composed from the perspective of a female assigned body, against the boundaries and limits that one appears to be delivered with.
GINA ÉTÉ has already demonstrated in her debut album Erased By Thought (2021) that she consistently incorporates politics and society into her art. “All Or Nothing” tackles the climatic catastrophe, “Trauma” probes the psychological effects of seeking safety in Europe, and “Mauern,” from her debut EP “Oak Tree,” was a farewell to Donald Trump and other dictatorial regents.
Now “F***you:you” is the first single from her newly announced second album “Prosopagnosia” (7th February 2025), and the single doesn’t stand on its own: Seven European musicians have cooperated to create six cover versions of the song, which address the themes of bodies, borders, gender, and discrimination in English, German, Russian, Dutch, French, and Italian!
“In each language, the topics of gender, gender rules and breaking free of them comes in different shades – so I thought it would be amazing, hearing it sung about in different languages” – says the Zurich-born artist. “I am so glad, those amazing musicians were willing to take part in the adventure!“
Morphing through genres as much as the gender spectrum is diverse, the six tracks are being released starting on October 11 and will be compiled as an EP on December 4.
